Oh pooh, the Symposium hasn't had this much excitement in years.

Last I heard from SF on this board, he was living in a motel since his extra-marital affair caused his wife to throw him out of the house.

Well, that was the last we heard. You're the one who asked.

What!?

Proud of myself? He said so in his good-bye thread! It was available for all to read. Look for his fourth-from-last post. It's easy to find. I even found it for you LINK.

You even posted in his good-bye thread! Why are you asking me anything?

Proud of myself for what? I didn't make him have an affair, I didn't make his wife divorce him, I didn't make him move into a motel. WTF do I have to be proud of?

Ok I'll make it simple for everyone then. This thread is an example of why people don't bother posting in the symposium. Its full of smugness and condescension. SF, in his own annoying way used to call CG on his bullshit. Hence wondering "Where's SF when you need him".

I know perfectly well why he's not here. It was a rhetorical question. CGs answer was yet another reason not to bother posting here, or with him. Of all the ways he could have responded to an obviously rhetorical question, dredging up the past mistakes of an old opponent are the most disgusting. Its embarassing. He should be ashamed of himself.

Clear enough for everybody?

You make me sick.

It was. Then I made people sick by actually arguing a counter point.

Jnyusa has a well deserved reputation for being a formidable debator. I haven't had this much fun here in a long time. It takes two to tango, and for some reason one to receive scorn for doing the tango.

Well, unless somebody has some "bullshit" that they think they should "call CG on", I'll ask everybody to ignore the last page as it distracted from a good (if increasingly over my head) discussion.

I agree. Though honestly, this debate has confused the hell out of me, I was enjoying it until the last few posts.

Ditto - I've always wanted to see C_G and Jny discuss this issue.

I thought things were going well too, aside from the inferiority complex I always develop from seeing the amount of information some people seem to just have at their fingertips...

Oh dear ... I just stopped by to offer apologies for having to withdraw for awhile. RL calls with great insistence. And I figured we were boring everyone to tears.

Seriously, guys, I need to spend less time on MBs and more time at work until the end of the term.

I agree with Al. The tone in some recent posts was a bit too smug and condescending for my taste, quite frankly, but since no one else was bothered much by it I guess it's fine.

Hmm, I tend to agree too providing no one thinks Jny was smug and condescending. I found her posts as interesting as always and usually find myself nodding in agreement all the time.

I think the French revolutionary call has it right. Freedom is indeed important but it needs to be balanced againt equality and social cohesion.
I usually distinguish between calls for freedom for the rich and freedom for the poor. They tend to differ.

Can we please move on like others agreed to? If you look at it objectively, Jn and CG are using pretty much the same tone so saying one was good and one was bad is unfair. Anyways...

I'm glad you said that because it has felt like the unspoken undertone of many such discussions I've had. Some view the rich as owing their society more than others while others view it as unjust to "punish" the rich for having more. I'm certainly uncomfortable, from a moral standpoint, of giving different classes different treatment, particularly in a case like this where the line between who's rich and who's poor can be drawn somewhat arbitrarily.

On a tangent...

Most of my family lives in a third-world country and complaints about the poor in "Western" countries often grate on me. The "poor" in the US and probably Europe aren't anywhere near actually being poor by any object world standard. Which is a good thing but it irritates me to see people acting otherwise.
