I'm sure that this has been asked before, but I wonder. :)

As for me,

My thoughts on aliens are pretty complicated and it would take forever for me to type them out so it makes sense to anyone else.

But, long story short...I do believe aliens exist. That's when it gets complicated.

Yes, I believe intelligent alien species exist somewhere out there.

I agree, Contact was an awesome movie. And I adore Alan Silvestri's music.

Do aliens believe in us?

I don't think they do, because they have seen us and are not impressed.

I bet we're way cooler than the aliens.

I think with the age of the universe being so large and all, and the size so vast, that the chances of 2 races of aliens being close enough in time and space to interact are incredibly improbable. Now, if we develop some kind of shortcut, like warp drive, it might be possible to interact, but you still have the timing to consider. A civilization could come and go extinct just a thousand years ago, and would still miss us as far as detectability goes.

Thus my theory that there was an intelligent dinosaur civilization that wiped itself out with an asteroid one side in a war dropped on the other. :D

I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map, And knew that somehow I could find my way back; Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too - So I stayed in the darkness with you

I haven't seen the movie Contact. And I don't have a some big theories about extraterrestrial life but I do believe aliens exist. I think the quote from Contact just about sums it up, it's a HUGE universe someone else has to be out there.

I think Stargate SG-1 plays are large role in my beliefs ;)

You're only sleeping

And what are the chances we could even communicate with something that evolved in a completely different star system? What if they only speak with dna codes, or shades of blue, or bursts of hard radiation?

Perhaps their mode of intelligence testing involves dropping large asteroids on the planet to get our attention? If we can't stop them, we are not worthy of communication.

Much as I like sci fi and am a hardcore SG1 fan... I don't really want aliens in our reality. Too much chance for planetwide annihilation. We have enough trouble with humans of alien mindsets on this planet. Something really alien could wipe us out without even knowing it.

Yes but they can't open doors and water seems to burn them.

Ok yes I do believe in aliens, but I have a feeling they may look a bit more like us and are not too interested in the earth. If anything earth is probably like an ant farm.

Read the book and thot Sagan had wimped out. Started watching the movie and it was OK, but couldn't get into it.

"waste of space"? Why? Comments like that imply that there is "something" at work.

I don't think there is "anything" at work. It is what it is.

We're here. There may be others. At this time, we don't know.

It is possible, although I think it is improbable, that we are alone. I would like to think I will live to see "contact" but I don't think I will.

I think it will be a terribly hard thing for us to accept/accomodate, and I think it is entirely possible that it will really be "the end of life as we know it".

As we peer past beeellions and beeeellions of stars....

I liked Contact, and thought it was an entertaining movie.
I don't really buy into the whole thing though.

Yes space is really really mind bogglingly huge, with unbelievable amounts of objects in it. That fact in itself may suggest the possibility of life of some type somewhere.

However you have to add the fact that in order for life to exist as we know it that the chances of meeting the right conditions is stupidly small.

Time is mind bogglingly huge in all directions and the chance that we coincide with life somewhere else is stupidly small.

Space in all its vastness is so stupidly spread out that there is no practical way of moving even tiny distances without taking eons.

The chances of technological societies evolving somewhat together is stupidly small.

There are so many mitigating factors that I doubt very highly we will ever know much of anything.

Aside from maybe some microbes on one of Saturn's moons.

I'd imagine they're probably out there somewhere, but I don't think they would have visited us. Interstellar travel is very difficult, even assuming that they are intelligent and technologically advanced.

I think that it is arrogant to think that we are alone in this universe. I seriously doubt that we will be in contact with whatever is out any time soon, if ever, but I do believe that there are probably many other intelligent life forms out there.

I'd feel better if you'd get on yahoo Jonny. :P But I'll type out a simplified version here. You can ask questions if you ever get online. :LMAO:

I doubt many people here (if any) will share my belief and I know it's a little unusual in this day and age...but I have developed it after years of discussions and so I'm pretty firm on it.

Basically, I believe that aliens are demons in a "alien" form to trick people.

So to agree with me you'd have to believe in demons, and that's a whole different story as well.

I don't know any non-Christians who agree with my view, and only a few Christians who do. The whole thing is fascinating though...

Like, why would your version of a deity want to trick people?
