They know where the $$$ are for the band...concerts, not CDs. It's been that way since vinyl was king. As the article notes, Prince figured it out too.
Artists who write their own songs are even better off, of course, since even more money is attached to those rights.

 to Radiohead.

:Q Wow. That's cool. I've been wanting to listen to this band for a while but haven't wanted to part with $$$; it's always a risk to spend money on a band you're not familiar with.

Of course, if I like it, then I would pay money for their songs.

What an interesting experiment. I wonder how it will all turn out.

That's a brilliant idea. I am of the belief that music should be free to begin with. If you like the band then, you will go to their shows and buy their merchandise. Nobody should have to pay $20 for an album and then find that most of it sucks. Its too bad that I despise Radiohead.

A small, formerly local ska/punk band named Bomb The Music Industry have an interesting model as well. All of the songs are free to download. If you want merch, bring a shirt, they have spray paint and a stencil. The money is made through donation and shows. I'm a big fan of it.

I don't care much for Radiohead, but I like this idea. I hope more bands get on it. And the iTunes store is no substitute. The non-DRM music is more expensive. DRM is evil.
