Someone above mentioned Jnyusa's excellent, excellent post on Hall of Fire on this topic. It is absolutely worth reading. Things are made quite clear that are obviously not clear here in this thread.

Check it out.

I have edited the first post to remove any specific mention of any one government or international equivelant.

I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map, And knew that somehow I could find my way back; Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too - So I stayed in the darkness with you

Thank you Crucifer :) This a very worthy topic that was never the issue.

Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping

I agree w/ Shadowjack how America should focus on helping the homeless.

At the same time, we could still help out some monks.

I'm biased....I love monks. :)

No one is stopping anyone from acting. Especially from the Burmese people rising up and overthrowing the government and junta. It's called self-preservation.

That's true. But my heart would quail, I can tell you that.

I am not a martyr, and understand why others don't want to be.

In some situations there is a fine line between cowardice and self-preservation.

"....and dying in your beds, many years from now....would you be willing, to trade all the days from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance....?"
...to go back and help some brother monks? Hell, to help anybody??

I guarantee you, on my deathbed, when eternity is knocking on my door, I'm gonna be thinking about what I did to do someone else some good, not patting myself on the back for how prudently I conducted myself in self-preservation.

Side-note while I think about the main issues: HoF is friends-locked. There's no point in telling people that there's a great post over there, because the only ones who don't know about it are the ones who can't see it.

Actually Pips, Jnyusa's post is not in a private area. Anyone can read it without being a member.

I think the fine line is more interpretation rather than fact.

vison, I think a person's heart should quail. It's a horrible thing that is happening, but how involved should other countries be? I don't have a definitive answer because there is none. Again, it's all interpretation.

Well, yeah. One chooses to give a shit, or they don't. It's all relative to who and what you perceive yourself to be in relation to the Burmese.
Any human is my brother/sister, in my view.

Again, less focus on the TV and more on what's really going on in the world is my hope for Americans.

And, indeed for everyone, not just Americans.
