It doesn't look like it's free any more. I might buy it though! I love McKellan's voice. :)

I miss civilized libraries :bawl:. The Long Beach Public Library is a piece of crap. They charge money to check out movies and CD's how stupid is that?!
I'd say it's quite fair if they're competing with businesses that do that same thing (exceptions for educational videos etc.).

I figured that was normal. I don't know any libraries around here that don't.

Everything at our library is "free," if you don't count the taxes we pay. :blackeye:

Guess the theory here is that books should be free, and if you want anything else, well, at least the prices are subsidised.

Interesting. I don't think I ever realized that libraries charged for other things like movies. What about music? Audiobooks? Playaways?

My library doesn't charge anything for DVDs and CDs.

The Edinburgh library used to charge for CDs when they first started carrying them, but then they dropped the charges about a year later.

I guess I'm mostly speaking for my local library in Wells, but that also goes for the campus library here in Aberystwyth and the local library in the town. They charge for anything which isn't paper-based.

MariaHobbit, I found the original site from which I downloaded my copy of Wolf Brother, and it is still available, free!

http://books.guardian.co.uk/wolfbrother ... 67,00.html

Fourteen downloadable episodes. :)
