I think it bears mentioning that Seasonal Affective Disorder makes many people cranky as the days shorten.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but haven't most of the kerfluffles on the board been in the fall or early winter?

Those that are being easily upset right now should look at the symptoms of SAD and see if the shoe fits, and perhaps attempt to modify their behavior a bit.

Well, I suppose it's possible.

I get SAD symptoms in the summer but I've learned to handle myself in a way that doesn't cause problems for people, so I feel like we shouldn't allow it to be a pardon if it's true.

Some of them happen in fall and winter. Some of them happen in spring and summer. I think the signal's in the noise on this one.

And for those of us with SAD, these help. A lot. I got one a week ago and I feel a massive change.

Sopunds like a good device. Although I can sleep through an alarm clock next to my head even if it is set on loud and going off for 30 minutes. I am skeptical it would help me wake up. And I can easily fall asleep with a tv or radio on and not have it disturb my sleep.

See, the light gradually brightens over 30 mins, like a sunrise, so your body is gradually woken up. The alarm noise (I have the classical music radio station as mine) only serves to actually bring you from almost awake to fully awake.

I have slept next to an alarm going off for at least 30 minutes while my room is full of sunshine. :blackeye: I generally set my alarm somewhat quiet to go off for about 30 minutes before my loud, annoying cell phone alarm goes off.

But I google in vain to find a Canadian price :(

I asked around, and I don't think it's being sold in North America.

One clerk, after I described it, did say that she wanted one too!

I can sleep through my alarm. I have a hard time sleeping through any other alarm - the one in my room at my parents' house scares the sleep out of me every time. Nothing gets your day off right like sitting bolt upright with your eyes bugged out, breath rasping in your lungs, and heart beating in your ears. I avoid using it.

**considers a wake-up light

Actually, moving to CO helped a lot. We get more sunny days and it's south enough that the days aren't as short as they were in Seattle or Rochester. And the cold and snow don't linger like they did in Rochester. And I have a nice, south-facing window by my desk at work so the light comes in. It's the light I really need - three years ago, around this time, I was holed up in the x-ray core for about three weeks solid and that's in the basement. No daylight to be had. It hurt.

I found some similar models on Amazon.com. I couldn't find the exact type that Crucifer linked to. I don't think they sell it in North America.

Thanks, Lali - I'll print that out and take it to my local health food shop and see what they say.

Crucifer, how much was the Philips model, if I may ask?
