It's not a big deal. :Q There are lots of red-headed people here, it's all that Viking ancestry. :D

I've never heard before in my whole life of red-headed people getting bullied. :Q The only person I know who got teased for having red hair was Anne Shirley! And she's fictional. :D

One of my work colleagues has glorious, shining auburn hair: it's Pre-Raphaelite hair. And she has big, brown eyes.

The same colouring as Ginny Weasley ... :D

Trust me, it's a big deal compared to the U.S. I never even heard of teasing and bullying redheaded people until I lived in the UK. There I saw TV shows called "Fuck Off, I'm Ginger" and other shows where people were interviewed and basically said that they would never date someone who was ginger. It may not seem all that big when you live within the culture, but coming in from outside, it's just really weird and really wrong.

Semi agree with Estel. I don't know if it's a big deal as I haven't seen as that she's seen, but it's a bigger deal than in the US. You see a lot more comments about someone being ginger with semi-negative connotations or discussing how that person was teased.

I feel like I'm living in a parallel universe. :Q

Honestly, I'm not kidding, I've never, EVER heard of this kind of thing. Ever.

Including "Fuck off, I'm Ginger". What the hell channel is that on?

BBC I think - it was actually F off, and there were a whole bunch that they did. F off, I'm a hairy woman. F off, I'm this that or the other. I think there were about 6 shows in total, but I'm not sure.

Maybe you've never heard of it because you live in the bestest and most friendliest part of the UK ;)

I started watching the Devils Whore last week, but the time crosses over with Hero's, so I'm just going to buy DW on dvd when it comes out - better to watch it without commercials anyway ;)

You probably attract the bestest and friendliest people to you :heya: ;) :toast:

*loves her Sky+ box!*

The Devil's Whore is great! Though sometimes I have a hard time catching all the words. It's like the sound's not that great.

Maybe they just mumbled a lot during the English Civil War. :D

Bloody time of history. Yikes. :Q Fascinating, though. Angelica is a great character and the girl playing her really looks like a woman from that period -- the pale skin, dark ringlets ... she's like a 17th century painting. :)

Eru, that is a wonderful photo in your avatar. :) Where is it?

She really is gorgeous.

Re the history: I had to go read up on it on Wikipedia so I could have a better idea of what was going on. :P

The photo was taken at Carne Beach in Cornwall...not too far away from Portscatho.

I know the bare basics about our Civil War. Mainly that Charles the First behaved like a dick and invoked 'the divine right of kings' and the Parliamentarians said, 'sorry, you can't be allowed to get away with that' and put him on trial and beheaded him :Q , and the country tried being a republic under Cromwell and then sort of got fed up with that. :D But our development as a parliamentary democracy really stems from that turbulent time.

Oooooh! I was in that part of the country back in March! :) Including Portscatho. I love Cornwall.

Oh, those are stunning! :) October was so beautiful, wasn't it? I love autumn sunlight. The Cornish coast just looks dazzling in that amazing amber light!

(I've not been on Facebook for about a month ... I really don't use it very much and don't know how I feel about it. It weirds me out for some reason.)

I've never heard of the Merry Maidens (standing stones) before! :)

Did you know there is a Celtic saint from Cornwall called Meriadoc? :D There are some churches dedicated to him there. :)

I really ought to go to bed. :help:

I wonder what Pippin thinks about Merry being named a saint?! :Q

:D Merry would make a really cute saint. :) He's brave and virtuous enough!

As for Pippin ... well, Peregrin = peregrinato = to go on pilgrimage.

:)

It was certainly nicer than the summer! We were lucky to have a bit of sunshine when in Cornwall...especially that first morning in Portloe. I remember waking up, still wanting to sleep but thinking I ought to take a look and see if the sun was out and was absolutely taken aback by the site of the village all lit up in the sun. It definitely woke me up!

Since we were so close to Land's End, we figured we'd go so I could at least say I've been there. :P Looking at the map we saw some prehistoric monuments on the way so gave it a go.

Thanks Lali. :)
