Well, the thing is - there are MANY Iraqis out there who think that it was better, when Hussein was still there. Not good, admittedly, but better..........

If we could fight wars with shoes...... I heard the shoes are selling better than ever...
www.news.com.au wrote:
THE Turkish shoe company making the brand of footwear used by an Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at US President George W. Bush has seen a surge in orders.
Ramazan Baydan, owner of the shoe factory in Istanbul of the same name, told DPA that he had received orders in the past week for some 300,000 pairs of the model that was thrown at the US president.

"Someone even came from America seeking distribution rights," Baydan said.

The entrepreneur wants to rename the model, a brown leather shoe with a thick sole, as the "Bush shoes".

In Turkey the shoes sell for $US42 wholesale.

Journalist Muntazer al-Zaidi remains in custody after being wrestled to the ground after throwing both his shoes at Bush during the president's Sunday news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Baghdad.

Apparently the shoe-thrower has been forced under torture to write an apology: article

His brother says that he has cigarette burns on his ears, and missing teeth :(

Whatever your opinion of the actual shoe-throwing, torturing the shoe-thrower is a far, far worse crime.

Yep, that's pretty awful. :( Why do you think they'd be so stupid (and I'm assuming this is Iraqi police here)? They knew this would be under intense public scrutiny.

Is this going to be a trend or something?

Shoe hurled as Chinese PM speaks

I wonder where he got that idea from...

George W Bush is less than 10 miles from me as I type this.

Here's my favorite part:
Quote:
Bush's speech in Calgary was closed to the press.

His event in Toronto is too.

Reporters are invited tonight to his speech at the Economic Club, but under conditions including that no television cameras, recording microphones, tape recorders or other recording devices are used.
He's still doing that, huh?

He's in Canada? :Q

Well, actually, that doesn't surprise me. Our record of dealing with war criminials is abysmal.

Actually from what I have read about his comments he was pretty classy about not criticizing the current president or administration. Good for him. :)

He said something to the effect of: there are plenty of other critics, Obama doesn't need to add me.
