Tossing the ball back and pitching are entirely different things.
There is no comparison between the pitcher's involvement in a game and the rest of the team. They do the bulk of the work and missing 4 at bats doesn't alter that
Piffle.
Most pitchers don't even pitch half a game...sometimes they pitch for less than an inning.
And the catcher has to throw while he's squatting on the ground. And for the entire game. The catcher is the heart and soul of the team. Pitchers come and go and rotate around and are brought in for three pitches and then they go sit on the bench. They're treated like they're made of glass.
And there are the inter league games where the pitchers have to bat so that adds to it.
It isn't the same.
Personally I like things how they are now. I don't mind having one league with a dh and another without it. It has been like that since '73 and isn't likely to change anyway. And since then the AL has won 20 World Series titles.
The DH was supposed to be an experiment and the AL was supposed to go back to the REAL game. But they didn't. The DH RUINS the inner beauty of the game.
RUINS IT.
I think Obama's next executive order should be to get RID of the designated hitter rule, once and for all. I may start an on-line petition. Who's with me?
