 Okay, back to being complete abusers of the Word of God. It would have been more credible had they stuck with the beginning of the end of the world. Saying that the Rapture will take place on a specific date or that Jesus will return on a specific date clearly violates what the Bible says. That's why I don't ever understand these people who say such things.

Will this guy still think the Rapture has happened if no one disappears?

I have read many accounts of earlier incidents of this nature and have always thought it would make a really good novel for someone to write about what happens to the people who believed and then were let down when The End didn't happen.

For sure there would be those who only went along because they had to, wives and children, etc. Imagine being the wife of a man who insisted they sell everything and go to some hilltop. Or, imagine being the man who did the insisting!

And the other thing: why sell all your stuff? Why not just be, you know, ready when the trumpet sounds?

Yeah, I don't get it either. I'd be more concerned about making sure my relationships were squared away as opposed to my financial situation or anything. I guess they think it shows their depth of faith.

In the case of the Millerites who were let down in the Great Disappointment of 1844, they sort of splintered off in several directions, some eventually becoming Seventh-Day Adventists. But it would be interesting to find out what happened to others. Many, no doubt, left organized religion altogether.

But what do they want with the money? I don't get that. You sell all your worldly goods, for what reason?

Probably to give to the poor.

So that they can have at least one decent meal before the world ends :suspicious:

The founders of my family's religion - the Seventh-Day Adventists - had one of these moments. In 1844 the world was supposed to end and a bunch of believers gathered together and did the sell your possessions thing. It's a very famous thing for our church members, known as The Great Disappointment. Per wiki:
Quote:
William Miller, a Baptist preacher, understood by studying the prophecies in the book of Daniel (Chapters 8 and 9, especially Dan. 8:14 "Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed") that Jesus Christ would return to the earth during the year 1844. A more specific date, that of October 22, 1844, was preached by Samuel S. Snow."

[]

The third major post-disappointment Millerite group also claimed [] that the October 22 date was correct. [] They came to the conclusion that Miller's assumption that the sanctuary represented the Earth was in error. “The sanctuary to be cleansed in Daniel 8:14 was not the earth or the church, but the sanctuary in heaven.”[13] Therefore, the October 22 date marked not the Second Coming of Christ, but rather a heavenly event. Out of this third group arose the Seventh-day Adventist Church and this interpretation of the Great Disappointment forms the basis for the Seventh-day Adventist doctrine of the pre-Advent Divine Investigative Judgment. Their interpretations were published in early 1845 in the Day Dawn.
It's all rather sad, really.

Reading this makes me think....if God did come back right now what would matter? Would world governments, and the debt they have matter? Would gays in the military matter? Would Kate and Williams marriage matter?

To me the answer would be no..actually none of it would matter. meh something to think about.

However, filming of The Hobbit better still happen, cause God told me him and JRR are tight like that.

looks for lightening bolts :scarey:

So - they lied. As we knew all the time.

In the first post I asked "How are they going to explain it away when they're proved wrong?"

Any updates?

Oh crap, I read March instead of May. Just ignore me.

I still know they'll be proved wrong, though...

It's supposedly tomorrow.

Is anyone going to hold them accountable when they're proved wrong? :Wooper:

I vote for you! :P

Seriously, I'd be surprised if it makes the news or anything. I might actually have to watch the news just to see.

Tomorrow? I thought it was MAY, not April.

Jeez. I haven't had that garage sale yet!

Oh, wait. I just saw the thread title again, too. Is it May or April? Jude, you are quite anxious to see this thing fail! :LMAO:

Waiting for the world to end is totally like waiting for a pot to boil. I'd go off and make a sandwich or something.
