Just was looking for thoughts and opinions on Wikileaks, especially, in light of the recently released diplomatic cables, and the hunt for/capture of Julian Assange.

I really haven't been paying much attention to this, I'm afraid. So I can't have a discussion. :(

I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map, And knew that somehow I could find my way back; Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too - So I stayed in the darkness with you

Can we get an article or summarization. I've heard of the Wikileaks but I don't really see how Wikipedia could be leaky or harmful :P

Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping

Here's a good article on Wikileaks from the BBC. Wikileaks is is own organization and is not affiliated in any way with Wikipedia.

Thanks Elsha!

Whistleblowers are encouraged in major corporations with rewards. But when it involves the governemtn then WOAH jump back we can't tolerate this kind of behavior. Why shouldn't people know what their governement are really up to?

My older brother and I were talking about this because I still didn't know exactly what Wikileaks was and he gave me a crash course and mentioned he thought Michael Moore donated some money to Assage's bail. Not sure if there is any true to that but I don't think it is so far fetched.

Oh I kill me I really do :damnfunny: . I guess the company wouldn't be rewarding a person for blowing the whistle on them, but I know in certain situations rewards have been offered by the government or something. I know whistleblower and reward have been mentioned together as in if you blow the whistle you can receive a reward.

I should probably stop chasing waterfalls and stick to the rivers and the lakes that I'm used to ;)

This guy has guts. Already the U.S. Congress are calling for his imprisonment and death as a traitor. But I think he is a very honest individual. Freedom and privacy freely traded for a feeling of psuedo-security. This just reinforces what I've always thought... that if you partake in email and use the internet, any content you put out there is there for the perusal. Internet privacy has never existed. "Nothing will change."

I think it took a lot of courage for him to speak out.

I think he should be an inspiration to us all.

Assange, Manning, Snowden, modern heroes.

Dick Cheney a hypocrite? I never would have guessed. [/sarcasm off]

Mind you, I tend to not to think highly of politicians, in general.
I have mixed feelings about Assange, too. On the one hand, his group has brought some things to light that (at least, IMO) very much needed to be known. On the other, I've read some things I don't like at all - for instance, that he can be callous about endangering people's lives with certain leaks.
