Saturday, Jacob Koscinski graduated from "his Christian-based home-school program with a 4.89 grade-point average and the coveted honor of summa cum laude."
Quote:
His mother, Cara Koscinski organized a graduation party [and] ..ordered a cake online from her nearest grocery store, Publix, which lets customers build their own cakes complete with a customized inscription, which they enter into a message box marked “cake message option.”

Carefully, she typed in the words she wanted on the cake: “Congrats Jacob! Summa Cum Laude class of 2018.”

Publix’s online system was unhappy with the word “cum.”

...In place of cum, three hyphens appeared...: Summa ––– Laude.
She even included an explanation of the term "summa cum laude" in the special instructions on the cake order form.

Another one from the last couple of days:

Quote:
A city power outage alert in Lake Worth on Sunday caused concern in residents for its mention of zombies.

That’s correct. Zombies.

The message was sent during a power outage at about 1:45 a.m....

“There are now far less than seven-thousand-three-hundred-eighty customers involved due to extreme zombie activity,” the notice said.

Seems that the "weird and unusual stories" thread has become active again, so this thread can be abandoned.

Well, it's probably going to be slow, the way 2018 is going, but there are still some lighter stories.

TIL that a raccoon climbing up the sheer side of a highrise is what the nation needs to come together.

St. Paul raccoon reaches roof after scaling downtown tower

Speaking of plucky animals.
NPR

Speaker Paul Ryan revealed to reporters that a family of woodchucks had recently moved into his Chevy Suburban, eating the wiring and rendering the car useless.

"It's just dead," Ryan said. https://t.co/lkWVKQk8Y3

A very patriotic family of woodchucks. Who knows what evil deeds they managed to prevent by neutralizing Ryan's means of transport?

Unfortunately, his car was parked for so long because he's being chauffeured around by a security detail. The groundhogs failed, though they tried admirably.

The Satanic Temple unveiled a statue of Baphomet, a goat-like figure associated with Satanism, at the Arkansas State Capitol during a First Amendment rally on Thursday.

The rally, intended to protest a Ten Commandments monument that had been installed at the capitol, was attended by Satanists, atheists and Christians, The Associated Press reported.

As an addition to this story I'd like to add...

The Satanic temple sues Sabrina the Teenage Witch, over the use of their statue in the new series.
Apparently Satan is not amused...

:D

I'd love to hear the arguments in that case.

I would, too, but apparently it's not true, they are not suing.

I'm wondering what's so satanic about this group.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-46453544
Quote:
Founded in 2012 in Salem, Massachusetts, the Temple of Satan describes itself as a non-theistic group that aims to "encourage benevolence and empathy among all people".

It says its uses satanic imagery to promote the separation of church and state and to campaign for "practical common sense and justice".
Then again, they wouldn't be so amusing if they actually promoted evil.
Their main function seems to be to upset super-religious people with no sense of humor.
