Is it Mines of Moria? I thought he had said something else.

He and his guild have been playing it in beta for a while now.

Yeah, sorry Lali! The WoW upgrade is called "Wrath of the Lich King" which I'm sure is cool and all, but in Mines of Moria, the LotRO upgrade, we get to battle the Watcher in the Water, explore the depths of Khazad Dum, seek for the Endless Stair, locate the Chamber of Mazarbul and finally emerge in Lothlorien...

Now which do YOU think is cooler? ;)

The most noticeable effect of WoW's newest upgrade is that the majority of the servers are full anytime that I want to play. I won't be getting it until I have a character somewhere near level 50 so that I can do the Death Knight thing. Until then, it is kind of pointless. My highest level character is a 30 and I only play for an hour or so each night, so it is going to take a while.

So two horde players a couple levels below me surprised and ganked me out of nowhere, & I proceeded to find and kill both of them 3 times afterwards. Is that bad?

The last guy I was seeing sat me down and made me make a character when I thought the whole thing was kinda silly. Now I'm level 42 & can't at this point stop playing :(

Night Elf Priest, hollaback :D

So has anyone made it to Northrend yet and/or have a general opinion on LK? I haven't had much time to play lately and am mostly just annoyed at the login queues and the fact that all my characters have had their talent trees reset. My overall assessment of BC after however long it's been is negative. I dislike Outland and think the changes unbalanced the game economically and "militarily". Will LK fix these problems or make them worse?

I'm also a bit amused by the endless quest for better hyperbole as more content is added. How much bigger and more ornate can gear really get :P? And where do you go after you already have "major" and "super" versions of each potion and "master" ranks for each craft? That's why most RPGs just use level numbers for that sort of thing. (Apparently, the answers are "runic" potions and "grand master" craftsmen. Hope they aren't planning too many more expansions).

I have yet to get far enough in the game to get to Outland, let alone Northrend. I have character ADD, I think, because I work with one for a while, get bored and decide to try something else. I still have my main character, which is up to 38, now. I am getting a little irritated with the Scarlet Monastary. I have been through it 4 times and have yet to complete it.

My Undead Mage is level 71 so I've made it to Northrend which is exciting and at the same time daunting because I'd just hit 70 a few days after WoTLK came out. Mind you I have a 70 Gnome Warlock that I abandoned so hitting 70 on a PVP server horde side was a major pain in the ass. Okay, WoTLK, it's a nice change of scenery but to be honest Blizzard tends to make simple things more difficult just because they can. For instance, Borean Tundra (whatever that city is called) is a huge pain to maneuver which I suppose is true of any city on WoW (Thunder Bluff anyone?!) so I find that element very annoying.

Lily I have 10 toons on Frostmane because I need variety and for some reason I like playing the lower levels :D. I still haven't fallen in love with Outlands the way some people do, but I do find going through the portal really dang exciting, but once I'm on the other side I groan. Are you with a group in SM? Or are you trying to solo? Are you doing Cathedral? Have to have good crowd control when actually in the Cathedral or else death is eminent.

How demanding is Northrend on the hardware? My framerate takes a big hit as soon as I enter Outland; is Northrend worse/same/better?

I've not had framerate issues in Northrend, except for in the two following areas:

Dalaran - Too many players & npcs to load in such a small area.

Icecrown - There's an area here called Scourgeholme which just plays havoc with my framerate. I suspect environmental effects being the cause.

Currently have a lv 80 Mage and a 78 Warlock that I'm leveling with my wife's balance druid. Very much enjoying WOTLK so far. The instances are quick, the quests are fun, and the new outdoor pvp zone (Lake Wintergrasp) is brilliantly designed for maximum enjoyment.

This past weekend I jumped in on a Lake Wintergrasp fight and ended up being outnumbered 20-1. Normally this would be a recipe for poor Wolfie getting pwned. But anytime you're outnumbered in Lake Wintergrasp you get a buff. The buff varies based on how badly outnumbered you are, and increases health, damage, and health/mana regen. Being outnumbered 20-1 thus boosted me from 16,000 to 90,000+ health, and caused my damage-over-time spells to tick from 400 damage per 3 seconds up to 2000 per 3 seconds. Imagine 3 of those ticking away for 6k every 3 seconds.

Needless to say, I may as well have been a raid boss. In 40 minutes worth of playing, I wracked up 7k honor. I have to imagine it was fun for the Horde too. They were guaranteed a win, considering there was no way for me to win it all by myself, and they got to have fun trying to CC me enough to kill me.

That's an interesting way of doing PVP. I will have to try it out.

I do know that my poor 59 quasi-twink hunter turned into a Deathknight yo-yo in AV. "I'm going to pound the hunter! No, I'll pound the hunter! Wait, let ME pound the hunter."

Eventually I started popping a shield off my belt or my trinket, letting myself get grabbed into a swarm of DKs, and then dropping a bomb on the lot, followed by an explosive trap. That way at least I got to give them a going-away present when I died. :D

Sorry to tuck this into this thread, but I didn't feel like starting a new thread and it's remotely related. :P

Anyone play Runescape? I just started and mostly don't know what the hell I'm doing. It's fairly complicated and I'm having a difficult time figuring out where things are or what certain buildings are. Not to mention I keep getting booted off the game every 5 minutes or so. I don't think this old computer can keep up.

:Q With my crazy life, I don't think that I could survive without WoW!

My Blood Elf hunter just hit 55. I downloaded the free trial for WotLK. I have yet to try playing a Death Knight after 5 days. I can't get interested in them. Perhaps it is because a few too many of them 20 levels over me have camped me to the point that I have logged out and played a different character for a while. It seems to overwhelmingly be Humans who do that.

I have a rule that I have made for myself that I won't mess with anyone who is more than 2 levels below me unless they attack first. Most seem to follow something similar. Other than Death Knights.

Advice please:

My son, 11 years old, is harassing me about getting a WoW subscription, because he has a friend who plays and he was over one day and got involved...blah blah...

So, do you think it's 11-year-old safe? Will it suck him in so that he never resurfaces? Would the LoTR game be better for him that WoW (if he's going to be sucked in anyway, perhaps the LoTR game provides a healthier ideology?)

Just asking for opinions.

thanks.

I'd say it depends on what you mean by "safe", Impy. If you're worried about the classic MMO-addiction thing, I'd say you're the best judge of whether that's likely. If you're talking about content, I'd say if you are comfortable with him watching LOTR (for example) than WoW is totally fine. IMO.
