I'm sure this is the wrong forum for this, but since there's no actual Gaming forum, I thought here would be best.

I just signed up yesterday (Europe only came online a month or so ago) and I'm really impressed so far! It's kinda "RPG lite", more Diablo than Baldur's Gate, but very immersive and detailed.

I'll write more as I get further into it, for the moment I'm just curious to know if anyone else is playing it?

No money at this point, unfortunately. But I was in the American open Beta, and had great fun. I played a human rogue and pretty much solo'ed through the entire beta, though a few times I was aided by Exar Kun or Themedes.

As soon as I have enough money (probably after summer) I'll get into it. :D

So what are you playing?

I'm playing a Dwarf Paladin named Pallando. I'm on the Aszune European Server.

Currently at Level 6 and finding the whole thing fascinating!

I have an undead rogue on Shadow Moon and a dwarven paladin on Dragonmaw. Both PvP, both in a guild.

I tend to play rather slowly (experiencewise). Adventuring, instead of slaying the same monster over and over again. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I think MMORPGs are about the dumbest thing in the history of mankind.

Just sayin'.

I would have agreed with you prior to WoW. I've changed my mind.

Goes for me as well. WoW is the exception to the rule...;)

So I was in my first party ever today. I had just leveled to 14 and was trying to finish up some quests in the Durotar area. This level 11 Priest asks me to group, and we were trying to do the same quest, so it seemed like a good idea.

We died at least 6 times in that stupid canyon! I felt horrible - I really should have protected him better, at least. This is really not making me feel good about my party skills. :bawl:

Party tactics take awhile to learn. IIRC, you were playing a rogue, right? Generally, your job is to start tearing up the enemy when they have about 1/2 to 2/3 or their health left. If you start attacking them any earlier, the tank won't have had enough time to build up enough hatred from the enemy and it'll just turn on you.

If all you're working with is a priest, though, you should end up taking the majority of the damage. The priest needs to stand back and heal you while you slice'n'dice, and if any enemies start going for the priest then he needs to stand still and let you pull them off of him. Under no circumstances should he use his Fear spell when there's lots of other enemies around that could be pulled into the fight. Other than that, he should be shielding you, buffing you, using Silence on any enemy magic users, and throwing the odd "damage over time" (i.e. DOT) spell.

Actually, I'm playing a Shaman. But I'm going to start the character over - my husband started this one, and it's a male troll, and I'm getting really tired of being called "Dude". I was trying to tank for the guy, but he kept pulling people with shadow spells really quick.

I'm going to create a female Tauren shaman. Any thoughts?

The Shaman is one of the classes I'm least familiar with. :(

Tauren Females (especially Tauren Female Shamen) are pretty rare, though, so at least you won't see many others like yourself.

Hmmm... suggestions...

1. Hotkey your Tauren War Stomp ability immediately. It can give you a couple precious seconds to get off a heal spell or to start running away.

2. Consider doing Herbalism/Alchemy as Tauren get an inherent +15 bonus to Herbalism right. Besides, is there anything cooler than a huge Tauren prancing through the fields picking flowers?

3. Find someone that does leatherworking and befriend them. They can make some really nice armor for you. When you hit lvl 40, that leatherworker will be able to make Turtle Scale mail armor for you (great armor for Shamans).

4. Try to keep your skill up in all the different types of weapons you can use. You never know when a great weapon of any type will drop. Be sure to visit the weapons masters in Thunder Bluff, Orgrimmar, and Undercity to learn as many weapon types as you can.

5. For grouping: Groups love shamans that know how to use their totem spells. If you're interested in doing lots of grouping down the line (necessary if you want to go through instances), learn which totems are the most group friendly. In my own experience, I love having mana regeneration, damage resistance, and + to weapon damage totems in effect on the party. Also think about which totems will be most beneficial to the particular makeup of your group at the time. Mana regen may help you, but the rogues and warriors in the group won't find it useful at all. Try to maximize your effectiveness by using totems that benefit the most party members.

6. When you run across higher level shamans, consider politely asking them if they've found any particular strategies that they've found to be effective. Make sure to ask them what their talent specialization is to get an idea for how their strategies might relate to you (ex: Mages who specialize in fire talents have very different strategies from those who specialize in frost talents).

Oooh, lots of advice! :D Thanks!

1. Hotkeys are fun, and I was planning that. I think it'll be much more useful than Beserk was.

2. The Troll character does Herbalism/Alchemy, and I quite enjoyed having the potions around for those extra buffs. And I am looking forward to 'prancing'

3. and 6. My husband is part of a really good guild on our server, so I'm going to get into it. It's got all different levels, and is mostly people who are in college or older, so it's not annoying teenagers! :D Don't think I'll have to worry about finding any professions, there.

4. The Troll I was using had a mace, but I was thinking of getting something faster, like a dagger. I'll try and have several types of weapons trained, though. Since I'm going to try and focus on offensive spells and shields, not healing, a dagger might come in useful for melee.

5. Totems are great. Problem is, we can only drop one of a particular element at a time, so we have to choose. Maybe I can get advice from people in the guild... I know of a couple high-level Shamans I can bug :D.

Now, what to name her? I'm not quite sure Eltirwen would be appropriate for a Tauren... then again, they are in tune with nature. Hmm...

Good. I cannot stress enough how good the turtle scale armors are for you. They range from +6 to +11 to Stamina, Intellect, and Spirit and give you the nice mail armor bonus.

Most shamans I see use a two-handed axe or a one-handed axe/shield combination. If you're looking to be an offensive casting Shaman, you'll definitely want to consider using a shield for the added blocking and armor bonuses. As for using a dagger versus using an axe, it's mostly a matter of preference and luck. Daggers give you a much faster attack speed, but axes have higher critical damage. At some point you may find a great axe that makes your current dagger pale in comparison. Train in both if you can.

She has been created! Eltirwen, female Tauren Shaman. As of this moment, she's level 9. I'm still fighting with a mace, since that's what she came with, but once I get to Thunder Bluff I'll train in axes and daggers. As well as guns - I picked one up off a cougar and they'll be nice to pull things with.

You're definitely right about how many female Tauren there are - the only other ones I've seen so far have been NPC's. I think there's another one in the guild, and that's it.

Coolness Eltirwen. Give us some updates when you can. :)

I'm going to be hitting 56 tonight with my Tauren Druid. I did a run through the Sunken Temple in the Swamp of Sorrows last night, and about 80% of the green and blue magic items that dropped only I in the group could use (1 shaman, 2 mages, 1 warrior, and me). It was a looting bonanza! I ended up with nice new shoulderpads, gloves, pants, and two trinkets. :D

I hit 57 last night. I can very nearly smell the ever-so-illustrious level 60. :)

I hit 13 last night :D And I've fallen in love with one-handed axes. I got a green one from a drop, and it's almost as fast as my old mace with twice the DPS

In other news, the annoying Alliance overran the Crossroads last night while I was there - I had to run through the fighting several times while questing.

My husband did ST day before yesterday, and everything that dropped was for a warrior, it seemed. He's a rogue, so it did him no good. He's also straining for 60 - level 54 at present.

Yeah Alliance raids on the xroads seemed to happen a little too often for my tastes.

I've been on a couple raids of Auberdine (Night Elf town in Alliance controlled Darkshore). Since it is Alliance territory I can't attack any alliance players unless they've recently attacked a member of the Horde. But it's still awfully fun to go to Auberdine and run into their towns freaking them out and waiting for one of them to attack us.

ST is usually a pretty good place for Leather armor drops. I'm surprised your husband didn't get any. My brother (a 57 Warrior), has all but sworn off doing ST because he's quite certain it has no good warrior drops. Strange. Maybe they've both just been really unlucky?

Congrats on the axe! I love it when I get a major upgrade to my damage like that. When you get into your low to mid 30's, there's a boss in Razorfen Kraul (far south in the Barrens) that can drop a really nice blue axe. Definitely check it out.
