Fortunately for me I had like 4 months for it to sink in. It still hurt.

I saw it.

:Q

Didn't see any of the TV episodes. Will definitely do so now. It took me about 15 minutes to realize that this perhaps was not the best movie ever made. :D It just totally sucked me in.

I too went to see Serenity without having watched the series. (I tried to find the series, but couldn't afford to just purchase it)

I truly liked it! :D I think what I liked most was the dialogue. The way the characters talked was so different & intriguing! (And the soundtrack was pretty good too...)

The story was a bit confusing to me, but upon reflection I wasn't paying much attention to the story because I was trying to learn more about the characters.

Awesome. George Lucas should hang his head in shame.

To put it in perspective for non fans. It's a factor of Ten better than any of the Trek movies, including Wrath of Khan. It's on a par with Empire Strikes Back and better than any of the other Star Wars movies.

I have to go again now.

I just saw Serenity at the cinema - and borrowed the Firefly DVDs. I think I'm hooked! :D It's certainly all that Star Wars eps I-III should have been... sigh.

I finally saw it last night and :Q doesn't begin to cover it. Wow.

It felt small-scale, as some reviewers have complained, but to me that just pulled me in farther.

It pulled no punches, which makes me adore Joss Whedon as a writer even more. Spoilers:
Quote:
After Wash's death (and the way it happened), I knew all bets were off; as other characters came close to death I felt real dread, because now I knew we were not in Happy Storyland.

I even think it's evil the way they killed off Shepherd Book, and all over the theater I am certain people were thinking, "Check. Character death. Now let's move on," because his death was "conventional"—tragic, with meaningful last words. It only made what happened to Wash more shocking.

And may I say I was astonished by Nathan Fillion as Mal. I've enjoyed his work in the television episodes, but I didn't expect to be blown away by him as a leading man in a film. Yet I was. So often "television actors" (I know he's been in small parts in some films, but still) bring their small-screen presence to the big screen. He expanded. He can carry a film.

I probably won't get to see this again before it disappears, but I'm most definitely getting the DVD.

Edit: to add spoiler tags (sorry sorry sorry)and again to fix mysterious Giant Font Size

Prim, did you want to possibly add a spoiler warning before certain comments?

Or are we past that concern now? :D

Well, I'm normally the spoiler police around here, but I've seen it so I can't really say! I know I avoided this thread assuming there would be spoilers. I was quite impressed when I came back to read it that there weren't.

That said, I suppose some spoiler tags would do no harm, just in case!

Argh! I guess since it has been out for two weekends I assumed I didn't have to spoilerize. I'd simply been staying out of the thread since my last post, on the assumption that people would discuss it freely here once the film had opened in North America.

My apologies, Cerin. :(

Edit: Spoiler tags added.

Cerin, the movie is well worth seeing even spoiled.

Prim, perhaps you are correct and there is no longer a need for spoilers in this thread.

Please don't be concerned about me, I was already spoiled. I deliberately read on after MariaHobbit's mega spoiler warning a couple of pages back. :D

Cerin! You didn't!

That was an awful spoiler, and you read it anyway, despite the barbed wire and sirens and packs of ravening guard dogs???

You are braver than I am!

That's a good way to put it, Prim. "Not in Happy Storyland"

I'm glad I watched a couple of episodes before seeing the movie to better understand the relationships between crew members.

I absolutely adore Firefly/Serenity

I too thought they were going to off the entire cast, but am glad that they didn't. :)

Okay, so I've seen a few episodes of Firefly now. I'm getting set to watch all of the episodes between now and Nov. 4th when the DVD's are due back at the library. (I've swiped the DVD's from my friends who originally borrowed it.) It's great!!!!

I'm waiting to see Serenity at the Dollar Theatres, I think, if I can hold out that long. I've heard really good things about it.

I've skimmed the thread, but I don't have time to read it exhaustively. So pardon the question (if it's been asked and answered already): Are they going to make any more episodes? I know SciFi picked the show up, but are they just showing the old episodes?

Thanks in advance!

Lali
