Alatar, well perhaps "abu", but tonight I had a couple pints with Denis Irwin. You have to at lease like that guy. I've met a few famous people but I'm pretty sure he was the nicest. Very keen to just have a laugh with everyone. I squeezed a Roy Keane story out of him cause Keano was my favorite footballer ever.

That's my story of the day. Also made some preliminary plans to go to Manchester this November for a match.

Hey, I've no problem with the players individually. Its the machine I object to.

There really needs to be some more WC talk here.

I was on vacation this last week visiting my grandparents in Northern Ontario, so I got to watch almost every minute of every game from Monday til today. After a six hour drive home today I watched the replays of the ones I missed. The world cup has been both great and disapointing for me. I have no problem with a 0-0 draw, I'm all for defensive football, but the poverty of some of these efforts have left me shaking my head. Also this new Jabulani ball doesn't seem to be very popular, with some observing that it is the cause of the high shots as wel as mistakes by many a keeper.

So far though the Swiss beating Spain was spectacular, Serbia outwaiting Germany fine and Mexico dominating Frace wonderful. There were many other matches that were something to watch. Argentina and by extention Leonel Messi have been a sight to behold.

The worst part (for me) though, England's horror show so far. A buffet of errors and in the last game a complete lack of team spirit and actual effort were beyond disapointing. Ironically they were 2nd most favoured to win the whole thing, but any more performances like this and they won't even sniff the promised land.

I don't follow sports and football but I gather you have something to celebrate. Well done.

England were truly outclassed and outplayed. I hope Germany make it to the final. It would be interesting to see a Germany vs. Argentina/Brasil final. I'm on the compy right now cause its halftime between Paraguay and Japan. I love to watch every game in this tournament. Ghana has been a great story and I hope it continues through to the quartar-finals.

Since Germany is meeting Argentina already in the quarter final, you'll have to go for the Germany vs. Brazil option. ;)

I won't be able to watch the Germany-Argentina match. :( :(

I have never hated a football team as much as I hate Uruguay right now.

Stupid cheating bastards kicking out my sweet Ghana. :(

What a disappointment for Germany. :( They have been the best and most fun team in this WC, very sad to see them go. Why did Spain have to start playing good football now? :rage:

Well its a bit dissapointing to see Germany out. I really think missing Mueler for that one game hurt them. A 4-goal scorer in the tournament vital in so much of thier success sitting on the bench must have been hard for them to see.

That being said, Spain ahve gone from exciting attacking football two years ago to a whole new style now. Its like they want to attack the whole game but they won't go for the all-out flare. They just want to keep possession until the other team becomes frustrated then attack. Its very defensive for Spain. I've always backed the Dutch in major tournaments and they always fall just short, so I decided not to have an opinion on Holland this year, of course, now they're in the final. Now I'll cheer for them, though it'll probably mess them up.

Well, that was it. Funny thing that the game for third place was so much better than the final. :P

And yes, we missed Thomas Müller in the game against Spain. More, we missed Michael Ballack. In the two games we lost - against Serbia and Spain - he maybe would have had the experience to call them all together. But who knows (- anyway that way we can put the blame on Ghanas Boateng :rage:) .

I think it's better to have lost against Spain the way we did, than the way the Netherlands have done. If our players would have played with so many fouls, they might have won against Spain, but weren't able to come home with such a heads up now.

And if Jogi Löw will stay their coach, this young team might go far.

Agree. The final was horrible. A stupid, ugly, boring match. None of the finalists deserved to win. The bronze final should have been made the final...

It was a very poor final. I was quite unimpressed. That final is the reason people here in North America take such a dislike to football. It was boring and uninventive.

On the other hand I went to see my team Manchester United play Celtic here in Toronto and we had a blast. We were loud enough so that all the stadium could here us sing. When I talked to Paddy Crerand and old time United player he said it felt like being back at Old Trafford. I think it was because of the excitement for so many to see a team they love and that they realistically might never see live in Manchester.

Anyway, we won 3-1 and the streets were red.
