You'll need to search through all her posts, because she sometimes posted recipes in other threads besides this one.

For example, a quick search found this one, posted in The Hippo Lounge:
Quote:
The best waffles ever:

Raised Waffles:

Mix your batter up at least 12 hours before you want to cook waffles.

1 ¾ cups milk. (Any kind, 1%, 2%, or whole milk)
½ cup butter (if you use margarine, NOT soft margarine. Use butter! It's better.)
2 cups flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 ½ teaspoons yeast
½ tsp salt
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

1. Heat milk and butter until butter is melted, in a microwave is fine. Let cool to lukewarm.
2. Mix flour, sugar, salt and yeast in a large bowl to combine.
3. Whisk milk/butter mixture into dry ingredients.
4. Beat eggs and vanilla until combined, stir into flour/milk mixture.
5. Cover closely and refrigerate at least 12 hours, up to 24 hours.
6. Stir the batter down (It will deflate, this is fine!)
7. Bake on preheated waffle iron as usual. It will make seven 7 inch round waffles or 4 big 9 inch waffles.

The recipe calls for instant yeast, but any yeast will do. If you don't have instant yeast, I would let it proof in the warm milk mixture for 10 minutes before stirring it into the flour mixture.

I NEVER use instant yeast, and I ALWAYS proof my yeast separately. This business of mixing it into the dry ingredients has never worked for me.

Me too :(

When I first signed up to a messageboard, I had no idea I'd be getting to know real people.

Goodness!

It's like looking for golden needles in a haystack.

Thanks Jude.

Look at the bright side - you'll be hearing her voice again as you sift through all her posts. I enjoyed going through them to find that one. But I guess you know the project will probably take more time than you originally thought.

There may even be some recipes from her in our old Manwë chat threads...

I can't seem to make myself look through old threads for vison posts. My brain just shies away from even thinking about it. It was surprisingly difficult for me to even type these three lines.

**************************

The plum barbeque sauce tastes like... barbeque sauce. There are so many other ingredients that mask whatever it is that the plums taste like. Here's the recipe:
http://blogs.kqed.org/bayareabites/2012 ... cue-sauce/

I used red plums instead of purple, so my sauce came out more orangey than what is shown in the pictures. It's just right... if you like BBQ sauce. I don't, really. But my husband does--- so in essence I've made the sauce just for him.

I could tell it needed ... something... when I was taste testing it. But I'm not sure what. I wish my younger daughter (the food scientist) was visiting so she could advise. She adjusts recipes for a living. :) Of course, she'd probably advise much more hot stuff. I don't like really spicy things, so I tend to go easy on the peppery stuff.

Thanks Maria - and I do understand about searching out vison's stuff.

When I do, I get immersed, and it's fine...it's when I stop to go about my daily business that the jolt of reality hits.

I tried making ground mutton into sausages this weekend.
http://thespicysausage.com/recipes/moro ... usage2.htm

We don't particularly like mutton, but this made it tasty. We'd bought sausage casings a year or so ago and never tried doing that until now. It worked moderately well. I mean, the sausages looked and tasted good... but the collagen casings were a bit thick. My husband started peeling the skins off his.

Anyway, it's something we can do with mutton to make it taste good. :)

I can relate to that. Venison sausage is good, too, even though I already like the flavor of venison. I don't like the flavor of goose, though, and that tastes good as jerky. So there is something to be said for the right flavorings and preparation making something palatable. I'm glad you found a use for the mutton!

Does grilled lamb cutlets with garlic and fresh rosemary count as mutton? If so, I think I already like the flavour of mutton.

I want to make peach vanilla butter, but it involves simmering for hours with a partially open lid, and I have a minor fruit fly invasion. So I guess that recipe is off-limits for the time being. :(

I hope peaches are still in season by the time I get rid of the pests.

I seem to recall grandma putting gauze over the simmering jam to keep the flies from divebombing it. Does that sound possible?

As long as it doesn't catch fire. My memories of this are hazy.

That was going to be my caution. :D Cheesecloth would work, but you'd have to be careful that it doesn't catch fire.

The recipe uses a slow cooker - so fire wouldn't be a big hazard, would it?
