The first episode of the new series of Doctor Who has mysteriously appeared on the internet. The 45-minute episode is called Rose - after the Doctor's new assistant, played by Billie Piper. It is unclear whether the show was leaked accidentally or as part of a devilish viral marketing campaign. The press launch for the series is being held in Cardiff this evening.

The BBC insisted it was "a significant breach of copyright which is currently under investigation". It urged viewers to wait for the finished episode to be broadcast. The broadcaster blamed a co-production partner for the leak.

The episode is available on Bit Torrent and other file sharing networks.

Rumours are the 13-part show will be broadcast from 26 March. The speculation was apparently confirmed on BBC Radio 4's Front Row arts show last night.

It has also emerged that star of the show, Christopher Ecclestone, emailed the new series' developer and chief writer, Russell Davies, to ask if he could play the Doctor.

Wow... I may be blind without my glasses but I had to go to page 15 to find even a mention of Dr Who! (It's very likely I missed the thread)
I really liked The Day Of The Doctor last weekend. I had to get up and have the TV on at 5:50AM for the 1st showing. Later that day I went with a couple Who-geek friends to a theatre where they showed it on the big screen. It was awesome! :)

(I'll stop digging in the basement now)

:D Yep, just go talk about it in the Hippo Lounge. We're having a discussion there.

(I can't believe there isn't a Dr. Who thread, though! That is surprising!)

I saw the 50th Anniversary episode in the theatre in 3D! :) It was really good!

You mean Peter Capaldi? He's only appeared after Matt Smiths regeneration. No actual episodes yet.

Not until the Autumn. His eyes appeared in the special and we saw him regenerate, but that's all so far.

So - what's the new guy like?

On a slightly related note, I see that David Tennant has appeared in Shakespeare's Richard II. Has anyone seen this?

Capaldi is great so far. Haven't seen Tenants Richard II, but I do have his Much Ado with Catherine Tate.

I saw the first episode, and it was pretty good. I haven't seen any others yet, though.

I just watched The Angels Take Manhattan from series 7 - one of the most powerful episodes I've seen. I'm just blown away.

I won't say any more to avoid spoilers.

And yes, I have some catching up to do.

I finally saw the last Matt Smith episode. Thought it was vaguely disappointing for some reason, especially compared to David Tennant's sendoff or even the last episodes for Rose or Amy and Rory.

Part of it might have been because it was so sentimental and illogical.
[SHOW]
If all it took to communicate with the Time Lords was Clara talking into the crack in the universe and begging them to help, why didn't the Doctor just do it earlier and say "Hey, this isn't really a good time to come here, guys. Let's make other plans..."

Has anyone seen the David Tennant/ Patrick Stewart Hamlet? I've been wanting to see it, but the cost of the DVD has been outrageous.

It's only $16.58 on amazon.com

I haven't seen it yet, but I intend to...

So I just finished Series 7, and they showed "Introducing John Hurt as the Doctor." But, in Series 8, it's Peter Capaldi. Was there some change of casting decisions between the seasons? Is there a non-spoilerish answer, or should I just keep my questions to myself and head on to Series 8?

No change of casting decisions. John Hurt is "The War Doctor" and its clarified in the specials between Series 7 and 8.

Watch this first.

Then you need to see The Day of the Doctor, which is the 50th anniversary special starring Matt Smith, David Tenant and John Hurt. Then, you can watch Series 8. :)

Or you could skip ahead like I did by reading spoilers, so you could watch the 50th Anniversary episode in the theatres with your friends. :D

(And then you could go back and watch the episodes you missed. And then you could wait impatiently for the new episodes to come out somehow so that you can watch them.)

Oh, and I did see the first episode with Capaldi.

My hubby said he watched a bit of the first one but didn't really find it that inspiring despite him being a pretty avid fan normally! Said he thought it was maybe aimed at a younger audience than him?

Yeah we've seen the first couple of episodes. You might be forgiven for thinking its Sarah Jane 2.0 cause its set in Coal Hill school (where Clara and the first companion Susan both came from), but its actually a little darker than Dr Who, more violent, though not as adult as Torchwood. There's only 8 eps, so worth watching anyway.
