You know, sort of like a book club but for the poor peoples. :D

I was thinking, with such a diverse group of people, it might be fun to share some of our music-love. We could pick a song for discussion once a week, and the person owning the song send it out to the rest of the group- for sampling purposes :Wooper: and discuss the song, though maybe not in such awesome depth as ttbk. :P

It would be a fun way to expand our musical horizons. I've noticed a few people on the board doing this sort of thing already, and I've swapped a fair few songs with Kaan and Mar recently.

What say you? If I get a good response, I'll start using this post to make a list of potential candidates for the first week's song. We could take it in turns to choose our own song. :)

I think this would be awesome :) though to avoid thorny legal issues, trying to find legal streams of songs would be nice. (As I've said elsewhere, Myspace is a good source for streams.)

I just "acquired" a couple Reel Big Fish songs because a friend asked me if I wanted to go to their concert.

We were supposed to go see Snow Patrol in the first week of June but they re-scheduled the concert until the 25th. Now they've cancelled completely "until further notice". I'm pissed.

But yeah, this sounds like a good idea!

It does sound like fun, but how can we do it legally? And I'm incredibly wary of music-sharing sites. My b-i-l, the computer guru, says those are the number one source of viruses and the like, and the number one reason people have to bring in their computers to be fixed by him. So how do we do it legally and, um, hygienically? :)

Like I said, sites like Myspace have free legal streams. There are probably others that I don't know of.

(mp3s can't give you viruses, btw.)

This sounds like a great idea! :D

I don't think we'll come across any legal issues unless the song is available somewhere legally. As long as we suggest a song that is, well, the board can't control where people actually get their songs, can they? ;) Beyond that it's all on the individual, and I've already downloaded so many songs from Limewire that a couple more can't hurt. :D

TWT, Snow Patrol cancelled their concert tour because their lead singer has throat blisters. So you can't really blame them. ;)

Good idea, Pips! Count me in. My music horizons are certainly in need of broadening.

As far as sharing, there are file upload sites to which one person could upload the song and link it to everyone else. No viruses, just music.

Yay for responseness! :D:D:D

Okay, I've somehow put myself into an in-charge type position so I guess I'd better follow through with the goods- leadership! :Q

What I'll do, and if anybody can think of a better way to do it, nooooo problem, is to list ten suitable songs which I don't think everybody here will have heard of. Then if anybody interested wanted to vote (informally!) on which sounded most interesting or least like their current music taste or whatever, then that could be our song for discussion. :D

*goes to pick some songs*

Many dates are approximate because I don't think anybody will be *that* bothered.

Ichirin no Hana, High And Mighty Color
(Lone flower? Bad translation.) Hard rock, Japan, 2005. Onizuka has the lyrics in his sig.

The Blower's Daughter, Damien Rice
Acoustic, 2004. Very sad and beautiful. Satch's sig is a possible reference?

Lip Up Fatty, Bad Manners
Two-tone ska, 1980. Very upbeat and strange- a fun one for people who've never listened to ska before.

Hounds of Love- The Futureheads
Rock, 2003. Cover of Kate Bush classic.

Green Bird- Yoko Kanno/The Seatbelts
Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, 1998. Beautiful and strange. Contains a made-up language and a lot of pretty piano.

Israelites- Desmond Dekker
Reggae, 1968. Dekker died a few weeks ago. :(

Moroccan Peoples Revolutionary Bowls Club- Blur
Britpop, 2003. Jaunty, weird.

Houkiboushi- Youhna
(Comet) Japan, pop, 2005. She has a wonderful voice.

White Room- Cream
Psychadelic rock, 1968. Gets no love. :sob: #364 on Rolling Stone's List of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Drug-induced.

It's so hard to stick with just ten. :help:

How odd that you'd have three songs from Japan. (:P)

I vote for the Blur song or the Cowboy Bebob song.

I vote for The Blower's Daughter, the Cowboy Bebop one (because I liked the movie), or the Morroccan one, because I like the title.

I figured if this took off it mightn't be my chance to pick for ages, and we are going for diversity... :D

If this takes off, how do we decide who picks next? I have a song in mind if I can find a stream for it...

I'd like to participate. Half those songs I have not heard of.

About a suggestion to hear the song (sometimes streams might not be available. We could ttry email or what Mossy suggested (I use sendspace). I don't usestuff like Limeware or Kazza either.

I haven't had a lot of exposure to Japanese music, so I'm going to vote for one of those songs. :D How about the first one? So my vote is Ichirin no Hana.

Yova, I hereby decree the next turn to be yours. :D

I'll do my damndest to find streams for whichever song we go with, but I've deliberately picked songs I already have on my computer, so I can send them to anybody who wants me to. :)

Looks like so far it's Green Bird. :)
Mossy, I nearly put Cosmic Dare (Pretty With a Pistol) (the song on the radio which Faye switches off) or Ask DNA (the opening theme) from Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' On Heaven's Door. I've never seen the series actually- it was the movie that started me off on anime. That and the fact than my friend gave me a four disc boxset of the best of the soundtracks for my sixteenth birthday. :D

I hate to be the communist here but in the future I think instead of voting on a song the user (in the case Pips, later Yova) should just post a song to talk about. Things would move a lot quicker, but hey, that's just me.

I would have to say White Room by Cream. Eric Clapton, 6 albums in 4 years. You can't go wrong with that band! That's some great psychedellia right there!

I didn't wanna do White Room since a lot of people have heard it (me in particular). The fun of this is to really listen to something really different - say, Japanese pop. ;)
