I add the '?' because I know there has to be a thread on soundtracks somewhere. I looked back 5 pages but couldn't find any. TTBK must have started one at some point.

Either way, I haven't started a thread in months so bite me if there is another one! :P

What are your favorite soundtracks? Why?

For me:
Final Fantasy, Advent Children
LOTR, The Two Towers
Star Wars, The Empire Strikes back
Last of the Mohicans
Munich

Others will come to me.

LOTR.

Bleach, but only if you count the theme tunes and the character themes which aren't background music, as well as the background tracks.

Fate/stay Night has an excellent soundtrack. I never even watched more than half a dozen episodes of that anime, but I still listen to the very atmospheric music on a regular basis. I recommend it to everyone, particularly people who haven't watched the series and don't intend to.

Death Note, also including theme music; very atmospheric and dark BGM, and hugely energetic theme tunes. I consistently confuse 'L's Theme' with 'Tubular Bells' by Mike Oldfield, and I love 'Dani California' (even though 'Desecration Smile' would have been far more fitting).

NANA is also pretty good. It's got a very Sex Pistols motif, which the music doesn't completely live up to, but frankly the two female-fronted punk bands around which the story revolves are as close to punk rock as the Japanese are likely to manage for many years.

FFVII soundtrack is awesome.
Death Note soundtrack is awesome.
LoTR soundtrack is awesome.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon soundtrack is awesome.

And, the list goes on but Mom packed all my CDs without my permission so I can't remember them.

Ok, so maybe some of you anime fans out there can help me out. Are there sountracks to other anime stuff that could be remotely comparable to Advent Children? I'd like to get my hands on some other music like that.

You'll need a bittorrent program, but Tokyo Toshokan has everything I've mentioned. I couldn't rightly tell you whether it bears any similarity to AC, having not watched it, but I would still seriously recommend Fate/stay Night. Of course there's always the international CD retailers, but you might hate it, so it's probably not worth it. Worth a look though. A friend of mine recently mistook it for some of her own hardcore classical music.

As far as I'm aware, no person on this website has watched both Advent Children and Fate/stay Night.

It sounds fascinating. *puts it on her list* Wonder where I could find it....

You know what? I watched part of "the One" today, an awesome Jackie Li movie, and......they have heavy metal songs during the fight scenes (which is awesome) but the instrumental music during the rest of the movie is gorgeous.

I NEED to find the soundtrack to that movie.

The Last of the Mohicans (TLOTM from now on) - perhaps the best score ever. Makes me cry only when the beginning theme starts. No words to describe it. Note the Scottish bagpipes as well.

The Gladiator - a.k.a. Hans Zimmer rules. He always does. For further reference, see POTC DMC and AWE. They'll rock your world.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - OK. I'm a sucker for violins. So what?

LOTR - Because it can.

POTC COTBP - 'cause Klaus Badelt proves he can too.

Speaking of Breakfast on Pluto, I was just planning to watch it. Nice coincidence. So I guess you can tell me if it has that song about the British Army included? :D (not mentioning the title, not willing to break ToS :P)

Not sure... I only saw it once, when it came out in the cinema. My friends dad was involved in some way. I think he may have directed it...

It's well worth seeing. An excellent film that deals with serious issues in a light-hearted way.

Ooh, I love, love, love, love the soundtrack for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

And now I want to listen to it again but my CDs aren't here.

Oh well.

Terms of Service. Never mind me asking of those :P

And Crucifer, all right. Thank you anyway. I'll watch it myself pretty soon, so I'll be able to answer to my own question.

I'll second the votes for LOTR, Gladiator, and Pirates, and add The Italian Job. I absolutely hate John Williams. Too formulaic. I'll never forgive him for ruining the Boston Pops when he took over (back in the 70s). Which is why I like the latest Harry Potter sound track - not John Williams.

Ahh now I understand why I get confused when listening to John Williams without consulting the album sleeve!

I love what he did with the Orginal Trilogy of Star Wars though...

Hmm as a, perhaps, interesting aside: when we went to see the said man, he confused the Brum Philoharmonic Orchestra with his own in Boston when he spoke about them... :funny:
