Crap. I was wondering whether anybody following the thread hadn't read the books, and then I figured I was just being twitchy about spoilers because of the Bleach thread. :P Sorry. :(

Do you think I should go back and edit it? I think I will.

EDIT: I'm sorry Iavas, I had to edit your post too, where you'd quoted me. Is that okay?

Thanks. I suck at modding outside my own threads. :blackeye:

I loved the books, and I loved the trailer...

Though I have to say I was slightly worried about the lack of daemons...

I'm not too fussy about the title apart from the general "Grrrr bloody yanks why do they do it different thang..." But they are hardly gonna change to suit my sensibilities are they? ;)

Ohh thanks for the info about post-production stuff, gives me a ray of hope. (for improving the film generally, as it looks like daemons are in there... Would be a pretty crap attempt without them.

Regarding the airships - I'm sure the shots in the trailer I saw was of London not Oxford. I think it should look a bit fantastic, but yeah not that different to our world. Otherwise it spoils my idea of his world really... The director's vision so far isn't how I imagined Pullman's world... Ohhh now I feel I know why some ultra-purists like members of the Tolkien Society refuse to see the LotR films, it could interfere with their imagining of Middle Earth!

I hope it's not too much like Narnia style... As I thought Pullman wrote his books partly in a kind of protest about C. S. Louis's preaching through his books... It would feel like a rather dark irony if the film of his books turned out like Narnia, style-wise. :blackeye: ;) Anyway away with the literature critic hat - I'm gonna look forward to seeing this film, and I'll ignore the hype as much as possible. Hype just sets you up to be disappointed - you'd think I'd have learnt my lesson about that by now. :Q

I wonder if Jude will like the films?:P

Saw the trailer when I saw 'Zodiac'.

Thought it looked fabulous.

I really don't like Nicole Kidman that much, and I hated her being Ada in 'Cold Mountain' (Julianne Moore should have played that part) but I think her casting as Mrs Coulter is inspired. :)

Ohh yes! How could I forget Nicole Kidman? Yeah I feel she has that kind of scheming style mannerisms and such that fit the part exactly. :)

Not to mention Lord Asrial...

Though I'm not too keen on Lyra - again not what I imagined personally. I guess I'll see the film to see if she captures the "spirit" of Lyra that I saw from the book.

I'm looking forward to this. :)

Dakota Blue Richards looks a little too sort of... proper... for Lyra. Let's not forget that Lyra is a tomboy and rebel, while that Lyra looks very nice and ladylike.

Also, Kidmans accent sounded a bit dubious there...

That was my gut reaction to her as well.

I'm not quite sure who I would've picked instead, but...oh well.

"The Golden Compass" is more consistent with the other 2 titles. Just saying... ;)

I'm a newb to the trilogy who has just read The Golden Compass and the Subtle Knife and am on to the Amber Spyglass (can't wait... really liking these). Very excited about the movie.

The setting looks amazing, I dont mind Lyra though like others said shes not the first image I had, the bears look FANTASTIC ( the panserbjorne :D), Asriel is good... but Im pissed off about Nicole's Mrs. Coulter. Whats the deal with blondifying villains in Hollywood? First the White Witch in Narnia, now Mrs. Coulter (specifically describes her as dark eyed and black haired in the books...)... and who could forget the Legolas debate (ok he's not a villain, but you get my point). I think she fits character-wise but dammit dye her hair black or give her a wig. Mad about that. Yes I am. UGH.

Lee looks great, the Gyptians a bit different than my images but can work with that. The witch is perfect, though I too wondered about the cloud pine. The way it was described in the books, it didn't seem like a traditional "broom" necessarily, maybe just a small piece of a branch that they had to have with them... perhaps shes holding it or its tucked away somewhere? I hope they didn't do away with the cloud pine idea altogether....
EXCITED :D
I wonder if they'll have an IMAX release....

Ohh definately IMAX would be frakking fantastic.

I'm really loving up Dolby 5.1 at the moment. It seems these Digital hearing instruments are living up to their expectations. Those sounds just send shivers down your spine...

:D

Iorek/Gandalf  :D:D
Pantalaimon and the other daemons   !

grrr... It grates on my how they have characters REFER to the alethiometer as a golden compass... not purist at all! Ah well, nothing can be perfect... but the movie looks GOOOOOOOOOOD!

Haven't read the books, but just saw the trailer. Definitely catches the attention. I'll be seeing it when it comes out.

Ohh fantastic the daemons are come! Ai, ai etc...

:D

"Golden Compass" when it should be Alethiometer sigh... Well its hardly like the Purist/Revisonist wars of old is it? I guess I'd let that slide. With "Northern Lights" being the first book of the series I guess after all I'm not too fussed by the name change for the film. First book - first draft... its all pretty experimental at that stage, sometimes you need to write more to get it all hammered down good proper and the way it should be.

Heh I hope it doesn't turn out like Eragon. So I suppose I'll refuse to suck in any more hype and get back to my shack in the woods.;)

Panserbjorne... Frakkin' cool!
