Saw the trailer for, The Dark is Rising, when I saw the new HP last night.

Don`t know how many of you have read the series by Susan Cooper. But they are/were fantastic books.
Looks like it`s going to be a kick ass movie. Be interesting to see if they do the entire series.

When the Dark comes rising, six shall turn it back;
Three from the circle, three from the track;
Wood, bronze, iron; water fire stone;
Five will return and one go alone.

Oh! I remember reading these years ago and loving them. I hope they make a decent fist of the films.

I haven't read the books, but I saw a poster, and it has a great cast.

That looks fascinating. It's a shame that I missed that series back when I was reading Lloyd Alexander and had just had gotten into Tolkien. I probably would have loved it.

I'd actually never even heard of the series before I saw the movie trailer, but the trailer did look cool!

Does this mean Hollywood has reached the limits of what it can do by mining old TV shows and will be going after old fantasy novels instead?

This was probably my favourite series as a kid before I discovered Tolkien. I still have all of my copies except Over Sea Under Stone which someone made off with. They influenced me a lot. I recited that whole poem about the signs and what not for my very first audition because I wasn't very clear on what I was supposed to be doing. :P Also, I dislike the fact that they are making them into movies but will probably end up seeing them anyway because of my deep love for Will. I seriously wanted to be him when I was about eight and maybe still do a little bit.

Wilma, you can find it at the official site, seekthesigns.com or it's linked on IMDB.

Speaking of which, I just watched the trailer and I dislike it already. To be rather puristy, Merriman looks completely wrong. Also, they're all American and that's just not right. I mean, the first book takes place in Cornwall and the fourth is in Wales. The trailer didn't seem like it was actually all that connected to the books that I loved when I was little. So far Christopher Eccleston seems like the best part and I don't think that would be enough to get me to go.

I think I may have read one of these books.

What are they called? I'll try to jog my memory.

The Books Actually Start with "Under Sea, Over Stone",Then "The Dark is Rising", "Greenwitch", "The Grey King" and "Silver on the Tree".

This set was My generations version of Harry Potter..Young man discovers he has fantastic powers and must fight the growing evil. I was hooked on reading from the moment I picked up "The Dark is Rising". I have seen the trailer, and it looks good, but I have learned(as we all have) not to expect nearly as much from he movies as we get from the books. I will see the movie, but try not to compare it with what my imagination showed me when I read the books.

Its actually a better starting point(to me) than Under Sea, Over Stone. That book introduces Merriman and the Drews, but doesn't have much to do with the battle...I think if you read it after The Dark is Rising and before Greenwitch, it would fit better.
