I saw this yesterday, and wondered about something...

SPOILERS!!!!

Who sets the trap by Central Station, the one he falls in? Was it himself, and then forgot about it? Or did the zombiebloodsuckingvampires (I like the term :D ) learn from him?

I believe it was the creatures...the one main male creature. I think he learned from what Will Smith's character did and set a trap of his own for him for revenge. I think it's supposed to show that they aren't brainless and do have some higher functioning going on in their head.

The movie is nothing like the book.

And the book is infinitely better.

Ahhh. It was him who peered out of the dark building and looked at the trap Will Smith's character had set, wasn't it? At first I thought it might have been the creature, but then Will Smith said something on the record to the effect of "the creatures display no intelligent behaviour", so when he got caught in the trap I thought he had set it himself and then forgot about it because he was going loopy.

I will definitely be tracking the book down then. I need some good reading material... I've been re-reading The Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing lately! :LMAO:

Ber, you touched on yet another annoyance for me. If these creatures did indeed lack higher brain function how did they not only set a trap, but break into the video rental store to steal his "friend" to use for bait....

I can't believe this movie still bugs me! Grrr!

I'm definitely going to have to see if the cheap theater up the road is playing this yet.

Tomorrow, maybe.

I also need to look for the book at the library.

first of all, SPOILER WARNING!!!

==>Basically, there are people who've been infected with the virus and are still alive, and people who've been infected with the virus and are dead. The former can keep it under control somehow (it's complicaed) and are able to plot etc. The latter are mindless. The big issue is, he can't tell the difference between them during the day, so he kills them all indiscriminately. The point is, the former now fear him as their *creature of the night* (Cuz they can't come out during the day, which is when he is active) The whole point is that the old norm has become the new weird.

Yeah I was definitely surprised when I read the plot of the novel, mostly the explanation for the title, which really doesn't work as used in the film. The Vincent Price version is a nice companion piece to this new one, for reasons that Crucifer got into because as portrayed there, while it's sad to think of the human race as over, I am alright with at least there being some form of intelligence out there. The creatures in the Will Smith film? Not so much. Maybe they're like cavemen and will "get there" eventually but that's not the vibe I got. They're slightly less depressing than a world overrun with zombies because they can set traps and I guess become upset when one of their own is captured or killed. :P
