Yeah, the Oscar.com site had a bunch of omissions in the list I copied it from and I only caught a few of them on Tuesday then never checked back. Thanks for the notice, I'll edit those ones in and try to make sure the rest isn't all frigged up. :D

EDIT: ugh yeah there were more than half a dozen nominations missing, but it should be up to date now.

The Director's Guild Awards are tonight. Should keep an eye out for the winners being announced since they often go on to win the Oscar. Not as much in recent years, though, I find. At the start of the decade, it was something like 40 out of 44 DGA winners got the Best Director Academy Award, but since then, 2 of the 7 winners have differed from the Academy's choice. Sure, it's only two, but when there were only four previous to that in a 40+ year history, it does seem like they could be trying to trick us more these days.

EDIT: the Coens, it is. I really wanna see No Country For Old Men.

EDIT: Screen Actors Guild Awards are on tonight (Sunday). I think they're still on right now actually. Winners so far:

Male Actor in a Supporting Role: Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men
Female Actor in a Supporting Role: Ruby Dee, American Gangster

The first does not surprise me at all. The second... I haven't heard flip all about that woman this year so whatever. The SAGs like their old people, I guess.

Okay full list of winners:

Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis, "There Will Be Blood."
Actress: Julie Christie, "Away From Her."
Supporting actor: Javier Bardem, "No Country for Old Men."
Supporting actress: Ruby Dee, "American Gangster."
Cast: "No Country for Old Men."
Stunt ensemble: "The Bourne Ultimatum."

BUMP

Great opportunity here, guys. Some of the nominees for Best Animated Short are online to watch! Check it out while you can, these things don't usually last long before they're taken down. And notice that Ro's film was called a masterpiece. :)

All I could find on that was this article: link and it seems to still be in the running.

It's funny how strict the rules have become for the music categories and yet there are no guidelines as to what constitutes a supporting role in acting. If someone has a lead role, but the marketing department doesn't think they could win it because of a more heavily-promoted performance in that category, they will campaign for them in the supporting category. Which is what happened when Marcia Gay Harden won for Pollock. Despite being one of the leads, it was the year of Erin Brockovich so she didn't have a shot there. I also still think it's silly that with the movie Training Day, Ethan Hawke was on screen for something like half an hour more than Denzel Washington, but he got the supporting nomination and Denzel was up for lead.

If you're going to deprive some great scores or songs from a nomination, maybe some actors deserve the same too?

The Producer's Guild Awards were tonight and as usual I can't find much about the winners but someone on the IMDB posted these so I'll just go with that for now:
Quote:
BEST DOCUMENTARY
SiCKO

BEST ANIMATED FILM
Ratatouille

BEST PICTURE
There Will Be Blood
I hope the last one is wrong, it's way too boring for a BP Oscar. :P

There were only two things I wanted to see happen:
- Javier getting Best Supporting Actor
- Juno NOT getting Best Picture

Both happened; I am pleased.

Juno had snappy dialogue. I'm happy it got the screenplay Oscar.
