I want a black horizontal square that says impawards.com?

:P

I do want to see Dark Knight, though.

Sorry, but after WALL-E, all really great movies have to have robots dancing. Does The Dark Knight have robots dancing? Hmm? :suspicious:

I think homicidal clowns can substitute. There has never been any, is no, and will never be any doubt in my mind that The Dark Knight will be far superior to WALL-E in every way possible, with the exception of viewability by kids.

I can get derangement on the street corner. Hell, on the internet, I have to actively avoid it. :D

But give me love and poetry, and I'll follow you anywhere.

Too much fluffiness in this grim, dark thread of Gotham horror! :D To balance things up a bit - this is one brilliant poster:

(Yes, I do love the posters for this movie. ;))

It looks dumb. I didn't even think the first film was so hot. The insane hype for this one has completely passed me by, I hate to say. Probs worth checking out within the first few weeks of release, though, before all the water cooler talk overpowers my ability to separate the film from everyone's opinion of it.

I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map, And knew that somehow I could find my way back; Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too - So I stayed in the darkness with you

I hope you are referring to Wall-E as looking dumb *E* and certainly not The Dark Knight!! :Q

Saw the trailer again before Hancock and drooled all over my shirt! I can't wait . I have no doubt that this role will define Health Ledger's career because he looks simply AMAZING as the joker.

I have always loved the villains in Batman.

So when I heard The Joker would be in this one, I was so excited.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it, simply from the clips I've seen of Ledger's performance. :D

TM, there's no Wall-D out there so yeah unfortunately I meant The Dark Knight. :P I was excited for the trailer cuz there'd been Oscar buzz for Ledger since day one, but when I saw it last year it looked ridiculous and I didn't get what Ledger was trying to do.

Wall-E is another flick that's had massive hype for ages, that never looked interesting to me. I'll see both. The theatre gives out contest codes for every ticket you buy and winning is kewl. ;)

EDIT: TM if it makes you feel better, I Dark Knight-ed up my avatar, a la the wienies at Oh No They Didn't. (Pretty much any random entry there will have people commenting with their "y so srs" icons, cuz they're salivating over the film also.) :P

Batman has suffered tremendously through the years as a character in movies. Almost none of the moviemakers have tried to portray the characters as they have been written. Even Burton, who tried to make the character darker, missed the mark by a mile.

This set of movies, with Bale as both Wayne and the Batman, is the first to accurately put the comics to film.

Batman Begins is the second best Comic movie of all time (after Spiderman 2 if you need to know ;) ), and I expect The Dark Knight to be the best of all time.

I was right.

And furthermore, I would argue this is one of the greatest films ever made. There really aren't words to truly describe the quality of this film. You have to see it to get it.

It really is unbelievable.

well, the score was instrumental to much of the brilliance of the film... and I'm not one to usually notice such things. it was very subtle in most places, very obvious (but eerie to an extreme) in others, and totally absent in other parts you would expect it to be there.

The Joker, is not only as evil as evil can be, but he's also quite funny, in an extremely morbid way of course. I was laughing out loud several times... which makes sense, in a twisted sort of way...

I'm trying not to give anything away :), but it's hard :).

Through most of the first half of the movie, I felt like I might end up being disappointed, that the hype had been too much. The "plot" as it's set up seems a bit boring, and mostly seems to be setting up some daredevil stunts for Batman. Fun, and good, but nothing new.

That's when Ledger's Joker fully takes over the film. The movie starts as a normal comic book batman action popcorn flick... but eventually it descends into a nightmarish psychological thriller that creates such a perfect picture of all the characters involved, that you can't help but recognize it's brilliance.

I'm still in quite a bit of awe over it.

I just saw it tonight. One of the best movies I have seen. I was really stunned. Usually I lower my expectations for a "comic book" movie, but this really surpassed my expectations. Both Heath Ledger and Arron Eckhart were amazing.

Some scenes with Heath Ledger made me question the rating of the movie since he was so scary.

The writing for this movie was excellent. Whoever adapted the story into a screenplay really really deserves some sort of recognition. If only all movies based on comic books were taken as seriously as this. I totally agree with Hal that this is a psychological thriller. Definitely should be seen on the big screen.

(Also the trailer for The Watchmen looks really cool too)

Stunning. Absolutely stunning. One of the most intense movies I have ever seen, with an unbelievably great performance by Ledger at its core.
After Wall-E i didn't expect there to be any debate for me what the year's best picture would be but I was wrong.
