Thing that I love #1: Musicals!

Thing that I love #2: Firefly! (And Joss Whedon!)

Thing that I love #3: Free things!

Thing that I love #4: The Interwebs! (Sometimes.)

Question: What happens when these four things collide?

Answer: Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog!

Some of you have, I am sure, heard of this, but for those not yet in the know, it's Joss Whedon's new, free, internet streaming miniseries about superheroes and archnemeses starring Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion! Act I will be put up on July 15 followed by Act II on the 17th and Act III on the 19th. They will then all be up until the 20th at which point they shall vanish, so watch while you can!

Still skeptical? Confused? Intrigued? All of the above?

You can watch the trailer and read Joss's Master Plan (plus, on the 15th, watch the show) at the official website.

I watched both I and II today.

Several times.

Then I bought them on iTunes because they are genius and I will want them in the future.

I'm waiting for the DVD to purchase as it shall have 'the finest and bravest extras in all the land' and I just can't turn that down.

PS. Neil Patrick Harris is adorable and I have been singing "Freeze Ray" all day to the chagrin of my coworkers.

Awwww, that was sad! :(

So what are they going to do from here? Is that it?

I saw that the Whedon's did the music; it was good!

That was a lot sadder than I expected. :( But still awesome!

Joss has said that he does have a potential sequel in mind which I really really really hope happens. They also mentioned Broadway at one point, although a) I don't know how feasible that would be and b) I'm not sure how I feel about it in general, although I would be the very first person in line for rush tickets if it happened. He discusses it at the end of this article.

According to a write up of the Dr. Horrible panel at Comicon, there is definitely an act IV planned. Hurrah!

Other items:
- Dr. Horrible's van remote was actually a website (designed by a friend of Nathan Fillion). Now you, too, can control vans by remote to pull off fantastic heists.
- The soundtrack will be released soon, as will international versions of the show on iTunes.
- The DVD commentary? Also musical. More details forthcoming.
- You can apply to be in the Evil League of Evil! "3 minutes, like you're applying to be on Survivor. 10 best on DVD."

In other news, my already deep love for Whedon has done the impossible and grown even deeper -- when asked what his favourite musicals are, he named Singin' in the Rain and Sweeney Todd.

As much as I liked this, I do still think his best musical work is the musical episode of buffy :)
