In lieu of an head asplode, I will go with :w00t:  to describe my feelings about the musical commentary. I'm kind of excited.

Also, for those outside the US who don't want to wait, it's up on Hulu (where it was hosted originally), at least for now.

The soundtrack is now available on iTunes and is apparently excellent quality. Liner notes and track listings are also up on drhorrible.com

My younger daughter got me to watch this last night on hulu. :LMAO:

Wow! And to think I never clicked on this thread last year because of the weird title. :nono: It was great. May have to get this on DVD...

In one of my daughter's high school classes (I can't remember the name) they watch a lot of films and the teacher says writers don't get enough credit, so when he gave them a choice of the last film to watch this year, their choice was Joss Whedon or someone else. My daughter said she gasped and exclaimed, "Joss Whedon?? You mean THE Joss Wheadon of Firefly?????" :Q :D :horse: Her enthusiasm influenced the whole class and they watched this film.

She tells me this was done during a writer's strike, and Whedon just called some of his actor friends and asked if they wanted to do some acting. They worked for free, and later the film earned enough money to pay everyone afterwards. Apparently, the Evil Lair, including that big chair is actually what someone they know has set up in their basement! :LMAO:

This is the sort of thing she's been learning this year..... :suspicious: ;) Actually, I think it was in her creative writing class, so I guess it's appropriate. :) I don't think she took a film studies class this year.

Musical...DVD...commentary

We need a head asploding smiley.

WOW!

The musical commentary is incredible, and hilarious. It's the first commentary I've ever heard that had me laughing almost non-stop through the entire film. :LMAO: :damnfunny:  :LMAO: :D :D :D :D :D

It's absolutely great. :) As good, or better than the film itself! Amazing! And "groupie # 2" has a gorgeous voice! And a hilarious solo! :LMAO:

I may just have to listen to it again tonight. :)

On the DVD. I ordered it because our download speed is so miserable at home. We had to watch the film on Hulu in fits and starts and that was quite frustrating especially in the middle of songs. So I got the DVD (also, in part so they'd get some money for this!) and we watched it again in good quality this time. :)

Then we started in on the commentary, and it's all in song! :D It's great. We had an even better time than with the movie, I think, because I wasn't dreading the tragedy at the end.

My parents are going to have to see this, next time they visit us. :) Especially since my mom is the one that got us started on Firefly. :) They are going to love it. :)

edit: there's another commentary that's not in song, if you like that sort of thing.

I wonder if I can download the commentary from iTunes, which is where I downloaded the episodes.

<goes off to check!>

Yeah, but I bought the episodes already from iTunes. I'm not sure I'd want to buy the whole DVD, but it doesn't look like I can buy the commentary from iTunes. I'll just have to look for it at the video store to rent or from the library.

Hey, just looked! Our library has it! I love our library!

Mine doesn't. :(

I am keeping an eye on my library to snag it when it comes back in. The only un-cool thing about our library is that you can't reserve videos. :(

My library does allow reserves of videos, but doesn't have as good of a collection, it seems.

I finally got it from the library! The commentary was awesome! I found the Wiccan subtitles, but I couldn't figure out what it was talking about at the very end. And I found 1 Easter Egg. I looked the rest up online, but I couldn't access any of them because my DVD remote doesn't have numbers on it! :rage:

Yeah, the Wiccan subtitles were weird. I think they were providing clues to Easter eggs, from what I've read online.

I love the songs. Nathan singing, "I'm so much better than Neil" :LMAO:

I'd finally gotten all the songs out of my head when my husband put the movie on again this morning. I kind of ignored it while getting breakfast ready, but it struck me again how *good* those songs sounded on a real speaker system. I even cried a bit in that one song, "My Eyes" on that part where Penny and Horrible were singing overlapping, because for some reason my mind focused on his words alone and:

Anyone with half a brain
Could spend their whole life howling in pain
‘Cause the dark is everywhere
And Penny doesn’t seem to care
That soon the dark in me is all that will remain

Listen close to everybody’s heart
And hear that breaking sound
Hopes and dreams are shattering apart
And crashing to the ground

That part's so sad. Most of the times I've heard that song, I'm so overwhelmed by how they are singing different things at the same time and how it still sounds good that I don't think too much about what they are singing. But this time I only heard him and it was heartbreaking. :bawl:

I don't think I want to watch this anymore.

It's funny how deeply things can touch us at different times.
