Saw Doubt the other week, it was very subdued but fascinating. It'd be cool if Meryl won! Missed Benjamin Buttons, but now Revolutionary Road has started so I'll try to catch that over the next few days.

N00z:

Best Song nominees get to hack and slash their babies down to about a minute in length so that all five can be performed in a montage. Peter Gabriel will be at the ceremony but declined to perform with so little time to do his song justice.

The only full song we may end up hearing that night is "I'll Be Seeing You". By Queen Latifah. During the In Memorium! link. Can I get a wut wut? :scared: It's bad enough that we even hear applause during that montage, a live performance seems further in the wrong direction heh. This could just be my issues with black musicians coming out again, though. *memries*

At least Don will be happy, the producer has promised a few Twilight appearances. :P I don't know if that means the leads will present an award or the host will just make a few jabs at it in the monologue. I just hope they don't fudge up any references to the Christian Bale thing. Like when someone made a (complimentary, if I recall correctly) joke about Jennifer Lopez years ago, and the camera cuts to Ben Affleck looking all pissed off. Shut up, you were in Gigli for chrissake. Anyhoo.

EDIT: ha, forgot I had this picture. 3:10 To Yuma was a nominee last year I think but I'll throw this in now cuz of Valentine's Day and yov's last post.

Colbert Report's guesses: American link, Canadian link.

Apparently he went 5/5 last year.

I think he will have a good percentage this year also. Sure hope he is right about Mickey Rourke for THE WRESTLER. That was amazing.

I got to see all the animated shorts yesterday. The National Archives hosted free showings of the lesser knowns over the weekend. There were only 300 tickets for the showing we could make and my friends and I were around 275. And we waited for an hour for tickets (then waited forever to get in). We could only make the 3:30 on Saturday, so we saw all the animated shorts.

But anyway, I really liked them. I found my favorite on youtube:
(it'll probably be pulled, but I don't know where else to find it)

Vimeo has the others...except for the winner. :P Check them out:

I did like them and by far were my favorite part of the Oscars to this point.
The rest of the show seems disjointed and Hugh is not a good choice for emcee imo.
I like him and all but he seems out of place as does the whole show.

And the Ledger thing seemed too contrived. I think he deserves the award but it felt weird.

I'm jealous, I'd love to go to screenings like that. The past year or three, I keep hearing about how AMC theatres plays all the BP nominees in a one-day marathon, which is soooo the kind of geek love I live for. Some day, I guess.

I thought the octopus one looked best from all the clips they played tonight, too. :D If that link gets pulled, there are others near the top of the second page of this thread!

My brother left, so I've been able to put all the TVs on and not miss anything while walking from the kitchen, to the den where the VCR is recording, to the computer room. I could get used to this heh.

I don't like this year's format. I haven't seen a lot of the movies nominated, so clips would be nice. And it just seems disjointed and weird.

Well not to be disingenuous, but we talked about this and I agree. The format doesn't work for me either.

No, no don't say that. :( I just wanted to pipe up like if either links go down, there is backup. I haven't watched them yet myself, but having made the effort to do so last year, I was really taken with the nominees and so look forward to this year's crop.

EDIT: not to ignore any other comments! I am reading and watching the show and taking it all in and will say more once it's over and I can relax a tad more. Thanks to everyone posting right now, it's exciting. :D Remember when TORC used to have the predictions thread, and a big ol' group chat on IM? If posting sometimes feels like something I do out of habit, then Oscar talk is one habit my heart is still in. ;) Even when I'm half-assing it lol.

EDIT 2: I'm really sad that Mickey didn't win :( not that I saw any of the nominees, but still. Penn's speech was amazing, so that makes me feel better.

I looked for a thread to post in earlier. Even on TORC, but all the boards were fairly dead. I thought there was one here, but I was too lazy to find it. :P
And no one was posting anyway.

Still think the animated shorts I saw were the best of this year's Oscars. Usually I like the show well enough for at least background stuff, but this year it was kind of painful. The format just was odd.

Of all the movies nominated, I only saw the animated shorts yesterday and Wall-E. So I really didn't like how they didn't do clips and when they did they were mixed up with other movies. Too weird.

D'oh, took a chance at editing rather than posting a new one. So just to let ya's know, full list of winners in my last post. :P

Now for replies...

I think I outright enjoyed this telecast more than any other. It was just a lot of fun. The opening was great. Felt a lot like the Tonys I guess, but I ended up thinking: damn, I should start watching the Tonys because those theatre people know how to have a blast. The Beyonce musical number was one too many, but I wasn't cringing.

That's a really good point. From a selfish point of view, I agree, because I still hardly know a thing about any of the nominees. While I really really liked how they brought out previous winners to give a few kudos to current nominees, clips can be helpful.

Just go to the movies forum and look for threads started by me. There aren't many, and it's a small forum, so you can easily find the threads for other years too. ;) Helps me to remember what kind of format to use and such haha.

We watched Milk during a special screening last year before it came out in the theaters and actually saw Sean Penn. He was seating two rows in front of us, so I was expecting that he wins. He is really a nice guy. I didn't realize it was Sean Penn until his bodyguard asked me to move cause I was blocking his way coming in the theatre. I said Hello and he said Hello, back. Princess was gushing and saying is that Sean Penn? Oh my god! Oh my god!! :help:
