Seeing "Henry Purcell" oon Estel's second video posted made me think of one of my favorites pieces from the latest Pride and Prejudice movie.... fan of the movie and Jane Austen or not, Dario Marianelli composed a beautiful soundtrack.

And it is a lovely violin piece.... the one day I was out walking down the streets here in Glasgow back in winter a street performer violinist was playing this...and it started to snow lightly. Just a perfect little moment.

Having a violin present would also tempt me towards some celtic reels, but then I'm a massive celtic music fan. Violin or fiddle...it's all good.

How about the Roslin and Adama theme from BSG? :P Works perfectly for a solo string instrument.

Actually, Runey has a good idea. Some traditional Celtic music would suit both the singer and the violist perfectly...

And Jude, to my knowledge, Bach had 17 sons with his first wife, 2 of which survived, and the rest with his second...

Celtic music I have to be very, very careful with. I love it, myself. S is a bit...weird about it. He's also weird about traditional Serbian folk music (not to be confused with gypsy music), though most of that seems to require a brass band. Preferably a tuned brass band.

Anything from BSG would go down fine. S and I chomped through all 4 seasons, plus the miniseries and Razor. The Rohan theme would also be nice.

Actually, Baroque music works with the viola. There maybe isn't such a broad selection of stuff written for viola, but Vivaldi had all that violin music that you can take down a fifth (or sometimes just play straight out, depending on how high it goes) and the Bach cello suites are fantastic on a viola. Kick it up an octave and off you go. And if I get the choice, I shall insist on the baroque bowings. :)

The Baroque and Romantic periods were my favorites to play from. Baroque is fun and pretty and Romantic music is a good and healthy emotional outlet for angsty teenagers. Even though I often wasn't up to the technical demands (did I ever mention I have no talent for music whatsoever?).

Just in case you aren't completely familiar with all of the BSG soundtrack themes, here's Roslin and Adama:

It would work well with a solo string instrument but even better with two. A lot of the BSG music is gorgeous but unfortunately most of it wouldn't really work on a solo instrument.

Mentioning the Rohan theme also made me think of other LotR songs like May It Be, Evenstar, or Into the West, plus loads of other themes that could be made to work as well. You've got a couple musicians at this board who would be completely capeable of doing some transcribing for you if they're willing (me, Crucifer, probably Jude as well).

Flaming Red Hair had come to my mind earlier. :D I could've sworn my mind remembered violins/fiddles playing the melody, but when I looked it up it wasn't so.

Who wouldn't love a lively, hobbity wedding dance though? Hmmm? HMMM? :P

Why on earth are you assuming my former teacher is a man??

I don't think she does, but that doesn't mean she has to play a whole frakking phrase in one bowstroke. :P

Anyway, we'll see what happens. They might have ideas of their own. And I have to get the invitations sent and figure out how the ceremony itself is even going to run....

This is insane. I really hope I don't have to get married more than once in my life because this is just.... :Q And I'm not even having a big wedding!

I never understood people choosing the wedding march by Wagner. In the opera it happens after the ceremony, and the marriage is an almost immediate failure.

Not good omens to say the least.

Dearly Beloved by Faith Hill should work. Here's the song, ignore the video.

I would have had the theme to Jaws for mine, but Estel vetoed that one.

It's like people who have 'Nessun Dorma' or 'My heart will go on' at weddings...

For some reason, it just occurred to me that a rousing chorus of Frosty the Snowman might be fun. Out of season, but oddly appropriate.
