I just saw one this weekend that I found thoroughly horrifying, even though it wasn't even a horror film. It's called "Equilbrium". I found the whole concept of a society where feeling things is illegal to be very disturbing. Deeply wrong, to where I didn't even enjoy the complex choreography of the fight scenes. :nono:

This one is going to bother me for a long time, I think. :(

What's your most disturbing movie?

Either THE EXORCIST which scared the hell out of me and drove me from the theater the first time or SCARFACE which actually made me physically sick.

From the description, I might have gotten around to watching "Angel Heart" some day. I think I'll avoid it!

I was never even tempted to watch the ones you listed, SF.

I usually avoid the Horror genre, that's why the sci fi "Equilibrium" caught me off guard. There was blood and killing, but that's all over the place in movies. What got me was the premise that everyone in that society was required to take emotion suppressing drugs regularly, and no pleasure of the senses was permitted in any form. At first I thought it was cute, "Awww, they are trying to become Vulcans," but as the show drew me in, I became more and more upset with the premise, and even the advancement of the plot couldn't distract me from the horror of the basic wrongness.

I was very young when I saw Angel Heart and it made me feel weird for days after. I found that movie unhealthy... the same for "The Silence of the Lambs" of which I got out shaking.

I also fousn very disturbing "Wild at heart" because of a scene of a car crash and after that a girl staggera around sking "what is that sticky stuff in my hair" which is blood. I could not stop thinking about that scene when brushing my hair during the next fortnight.

Helter Skelter got to me, mainly because it actually happened (more or less, there were some ins and outs in reality that they streamlined out of the movie). Charles Manson and his "family" scare me.

28 Days Later gave me nightmares too. I'm not sure why...it just did.

Oh, I love Equilibrium. The premise is supposed to feel wrong...It's genius. But anyway...

I think mine would have to be...I don't even really know. I'm disturbed by so many odd things that no one else finds disturbing. Can I say Twilight, even though I haven't watched it?

Manhunter, with William Peterson. I later saw about 5 minutes of Red Dragon, which is simply a remake of Manhunter, and it was equally ghastly. I still wish I'd never seen any of it.

Horror movies don't bother me, nor interest me. I think they're just plain silly.

But everyone thinks differently.

2pi r not 2pi? That is the question...

I've seen 1984. (The John Hurt one?) That's pretty disturbing alright... Especially the bit in room 101... *shudder*

But I've been on a Hitchcock binge lately, and I can honestly say that I found "The Birds" to be the most disturbing film I've seen to date...

I read the book back in the late 70's in high school, when it was still *in the future*. I've NEVER had any desire to see a movie made of it. *shudder*

Ditto - the book was scary enough.

As for disturbing shows I have seen - any Teletubbies episode. *shudder*

I'm with you, Jude. The only thing more frightening is Veggie Tales. . . .

1984 was interesting, but it wasn't particularly scary.

Does W. count?
The wrestling scene in Borat.
Anything with Paris Hilton, cause she is just freaky looking.

I jest.

I don't really remember any movies that freaked me out and scared me. However I did like Reincarnation a great deal.

sf, you know I am not religious. In fact I am not religious to the point of finding it painful that others are.

But on this occasion, I feel obliged to pray for you.
