It's worth seeing, if you can find it. I found it rather sad that some critics couldn't get past the Heath Ledger angle: if you didn't know the back story, it wouldn't matter to your appreciation of the film.

I especially recommend it for anyone who works in a creative field or has children, but it's not FOR children. If you fall into both of these categories, as I do, it may leave you strangely disquieted for some time, but not in a bad way.

It's a bit like Wagner's later work: about redemption through love, and through art, and whether or not that stuff actually works, or we're just fooling ourselves.

Unless it's about something else entirely, which is possible. I mean, it is Terry Gilliam.

Don't wait for the DVD if you can see it in a theater.

I'm not sure I've heard anything about it, ax.

I meant to take the kids before Christmas and never got around to it...will definitely try and make the effort if it's still around...

Psst, Lali! - Christopher Plummer plays Dr Parnassus ;)

And Tom Waits is in it - doesn't he have rumours sirculating about a HOBBIT connection?

It's not been promoted well in the US. Typical. Gilliam really can't catch a break.

Somehow I doubt it'll make theatres here, but I'll keep an eye out. And then I can always look for it when it comes out on DVD. I wouldn't want to miss Christopher Plummer. ;)

It's in theatres here, but isn't playing during the afternoon. I hate going to the theatre on weekend evenings when it's infested with teeny boppers. I'd much rather go to the matinee- cheaper and fewer people around.

Why is this a big screen movie rather than a DVD at home movie, Ax?

There are enough sections where the images are designed with a large screen in mind to make a difference--perhaps a third of the movie falls into that category. That's why we went to see this instead of Up in the Air for our semiannual grownup movie date: Up in the Air strikes me as a film that would work as well small as big throughout.

It's not quite at the Avatar level of not bothering with the small screen version at all, but Gilliam has said in the past that he works with a canvas in mind the size of a theatrical screen.

My wife wanted to see this but we have missed the opportunities so far. Gilliam's work is always worth watching.

Just found out this is coming to my local cinema over the Easter holidays...

Ax - you said it's not FOR children, but is it still suitable to take two teenagers to see??

btw, saw UP IN THE AIR last night, and absolutely loved it - funny, touching, thought-provoking and very powerful, with not the ending you expect..SEE IT!!

Teenagers would not be a problem, in my opinion. Perceptive ones might possibly "get it," and there's plenty of eye candy to distract while the brain surgery is taking place. :D
