I recently saw the True Grit remake. I was initially skeptical since the original staring John Wayne was fairly well done. After all, the Duke received an Oscar for his performance in that film. Of all his films there are certainly others that could probably be more improved upon than this one.
Now that I have seen it though, it was very well done. I loved the spare minimalistic cinematography used to showcase wide open spaces of the old west in the new version of True Grit. It unfolded with background filled with restrained piano slowly caressing old hymns to life. Jeff Bridges played the cantankerous old marshal well but with none of John Wayne's scene centering signature swagger. The epicenter of the story was 14 yr old young woman intent on justice for her murdered father. Violent, sweet, just, well told western. Very different than the original but totally worth seeing.
Any one else see it? Thoughts?
