I thought it was pretty good, entertaining. I appreciated the effort to make something different. I've never seen any other version of it, though, so I had nothing to compare it to.

True. Though supposition based on the knowledge that anyone who wants to make it in Hollywood has to play nice with those who control the money. :)

I don't suppose we'll ever know for sure.

Lali, thanks, it's good to know you liked it too. I can't compare the play and musical yet, but if you like theater, you might want to give the stage play a try. There's a DVD with the origin Broadway cast that's very good. I'm not actually a huge fan of musicals, but this one I do like a lot.
And the Agony reprise is a treat - the Princes are now singing a similar song, but about Snow White and Sleeping Beauty, and ends "oh, well.... back to my wife"

Society can and does execute its own mandates, and if it issues wrong mandates instead of right, or any mandates at all in things with it ought not to meddle, it practices a social tyranny more formidable than many kinds of political oppression, since, though not usually upheld by such extreme penalties, it leaves fewer means of escape, penetrating much more deeply into the details of life, and enslaving the soul itself. ― John Stuart Mill

I'm glad Al didn't know about it. I might have had to listen to that in the car. ;)

(Hamilton was much, much better, and I don't even have to listen to it to know that.)
