This thread was active during the upheavals on TORC and here at board77 in the first few months of 2005. Please remember as you read that many posts were made in the heat of the moment. Also, please note that this thread is no longer active; the board has moved on from these events. However, the members of board77 have decided that to delete these threads would be counter to our principles of transparency and openness.

I have restricted Wilko's B77 posting rights to the Bikeracks. He can see that other forums exist but can't read them. This is in response to a request from Berhael, who is with him in Glasgow. [non-member screen name deleted]
has refused to speak to her at all.
Berhael via text wrote:
.... it seems [real name deleted] [Wilko] wants to take matters in his hands and said he was going to cut and paste and show [real name deleted][non-member screen name deleted]
what was said about her, and that if I wanted to avoid that I'd have to ban him (admittedly, he was very drunk). I suggest temporarily removing at least his permission for the invites forum. sigh. I'll keep you updated.
Demo has said he'll talk with Wilko later on, when sober, and Berhael will be back on line on Sunday night / Monday and I suggest that we hold off dealing with this until that point when she can post and give us a better
insight.

Excellent decision which has my support 100%.

Threatening behavior (even when under the influence) is just no way to go about here. Let's hope heads cool and this will be solved swiftly, taken to bike-racks if necessary

Very good work! and :grouphug: to Ber and Leoba.

Good, level-headed decision.

I haven't emailed Wilko to give him any notice of this and I think, in the interests of courtesy, that we ought to do so. I am content to draft an email later on today.

I have also been thinking that - as this is our first case like this - that we ought to perhaps move this thread to the Business Forum for member input. If someone thinks it will improve a friendship to tell them how much others dislike them, that's their call. But I'm not happy with hearing that members of B77 are being subjected to hostility of this nature by one another. :(

This is going to be tricky and we need all the brains and level-headedness we can muster.

Full support here as well. The man needs to learn not to threaten.

I really thought he would be more grown up and more fair than this.

I'd appreciate some feedback on this draft email to Wilko before I send it out.

Quote:
I understand that on Friday night you told Berhael that you would have to be banned to stop you passing information from the Invites forum outside of Board 77.

Veiled threats from one member to another are obviously a cause for concern and if we are to progress from here we would encourage you to come and discuss this with the other members.

We have accordingly temporarily restricted your viewing and posting ability on Board77 to the ‘BikeRacks’ forum.

She's fine. I spoke to her and Demo and Satch and Leafy earlier on. She's in good hands.

Maybe add a polite sentence that you hope it was under the influence of alcohol and that things can work out....

I understand that on Friday night you mentioned that you would have to be banned to stop you passing information from the Invites forum outside of Board 77.

One of the strengths that has led to the success of Board 77 is the screening process for new members - the ability to talk openly about invitees.

As such, it is incumbent upon being a member of Board 77 not to share such information outside the board, and particularly not with the invitee in question.

Threats of disclosure have the potential to destroy the honesty with which posts and comments are made - and not only in the Invite Forum. This is a matter we take very seriously.

We have accordingly temporarily restricted your viewing and posting ability on Board77 to the ‘BikeRacks’ forum, and if we are to progress from here we would encourage you to come and discuss this with the other members.

It's a worrying trend. I for one am happy to kick him out until these boards are open to the public.

We invite people here to help grow and enhance the community. He has shown, and I can quote him, that he has no real interest in doing so.

I've had a couple of e-mails from people saying just how uncomfortable they are posting after his earlier comments. I can't imagine how they feel now.

Yep. Kick him out. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Now, drunk or not, there is no doubt.

I'm flabbergasted.

First of all, the draft provided by Lidless is a bit better because it explains the importance of discretion in the Invite Forum. I always like to provide the logic of what I am doing.

Second, I think restriction of posting rights to the bike rack is the best solution. We have, you know folks, a partial procedure for a Hearing on a Ban, even though we have not yet categorized what offenses call for this. But if we are talking about a ban, then I must insist that we use the proper procedure. Furthermore, the only rule about invitations proposed so far is that violation of privacy will cause reading rights in that forum to be suspended, and all the objections to that provision so far have been that it is too strong.

So this will give people a chance to see what can happen and to decide what should be done about it. Meanwhile, though, I think the solution you have adopted is the best until we can get this sorted out.

Third, I had a conversation with Wilko the end of last week ... about TORC ... and he told me that he was sending to Berhael and myself a draft of something he wanted to post here about 'the mod point of view.'

I received that draft on Friday, and really, it was so MILD, so in keeping with the way we speak with one another here, and so typical of Wilko's usual mild manner, that I wrote back and told him I couldn't not imagine anyone objecting to that. He was on his way to the mini-moot at that point and I don't know if he saw my response, but what I am hearing in this thread now looks to me like a 180-degree turn from where his head was at on Friday.

Please let's not do anything rash or counter to our deliberations so far. We said we are a community, and Wilko was unanimously invited to be part of our community. Let this be a test of how well we really function as a community.

Jn

If only we knew everything that happened...

It is unfortunate that this must be done, but necessary.

I suppose we need to stick something in about banning for the protection of the board...

Also extremely disappointed. I thought Wilko was bigger than that.

I do believe that we need to give him a chance to explain himself in the Bike Racks. Like [real name deleted] I wouldn't have a problem with keeping him off of this board until we go public if he seems unwilling to cooperate.

Wonder how that moot is going...somehow I don't think it woudl be all that fun.

I agree with you Jnyusa.

I don't want to see us do anything rash, but I do want to believe that the community can work through this sort of thing. It's a test. But one of the tests we need before we're open, IMO.

And Lidless, thank you for your amendment of the email draft. The input was essential! I was shaking so much this morning on the phone to Ber, and then changing the permissions, that I was convinced rational drafting skills had deserted me.

I will go ahead and send from the B77 Admin account now. :(

[Edit - 'tis done]

 to Leoba and Ber and all those somehow wrapped up in this.

It is very disappointing I have to agree and hope through communication a way out can be found. The email is excellent. Let's hope the heads cool and soon
