Hold on just a damned minute here!!!!
I, yes me, was the one who had the damned copyright on $$$ for sm00ching. You all owe me $$$$.
I want it written in the constitution that heretofore any sm00ching on this board will result in either direct monetary renumeration to me , or a compensatory sm00ch by one of our many babelicious babz.

I'll draft some language, Holby.

Oh boy, will it be language.

I love happy endings

But, if we’re relying on Holby’s Kissing Booth for funding, we’ll be broke in a day.

When I was a kid we used to sell donuts to raise money. Ahh, the good old days...

Nah. I’m sure my complete lack of self control would result in me eating all the profits. In which case it would be a tie.

Tie?
I'll give you a tie. A pink and yellow polka dot tie with tiny little "Kiss Me I'm A Treebucket Addict" embroidered in the margins.

You know I will win.
Smug and unappealing as I may be, I can still beat day old donitz!

:P :D

This thread is still not quite safe to visit yet, is it. Much too much smoochy stuff. ;) (Even if it is for a good cause.)

I don't think that is too unreasonable, though we are still left with two classes (I suppose this is unavoidable :( ). This was why I mentioned time spent plus post count. Yeah, I hate the idea of having two classes. But I hate just throwing the doors wide open even more. As for trolls, I think that a few here and there are inevitable. But we'll have ways to deal with them as they show up. You can't ever prevent every problem, so you have to make plans to solve them after the fact.

Speaking of which, it doesn't look like money will be a problem either. Sure, that could change in the future, but let's deal with it then. For now, it looks like there are plenty of people willing to contribute.

As a fundraiser, here's my suggested price list:
For $5, you get to kiss Holby.
For $10, you get to not kiss Holby.

I'll pay $10 as often as necessary for the rest of my life.

'beth,
You summed up my messageboard presence very well.

Yep, that's me in a nutsack.
er... I mean a nutshell.

Prim,
I no longer need to recruit minions, but I could use a fangirl. I won't even require you to swoon (although it is permitted if you feel so inclined).
But I do prefer the term "groupie."

I'm opening a rival kissing boothe. 4.75 for a kiss and 9.50 NOT to kiss me.

You better have some good marketing, Holby.

I'm kissing everybody, including Holby.

I had this idea this morning, when I woke up with a glued conjonctivite eye: Everybody can be a voting member... even if not everybody can be admin. Only - could it not be an idea, that people have to ask for it - a bit like getting inscribed on a voter's list?

I would definately prefer this idea over the option of paying for any kind of special membership.

This is all I'll manage to type for today, my vision is blurred.

I like what nin has suggested; you have to ask to be registered as a voter but are automatically eligible. We are meant to be an open board after all. If use is to be a factor I think you are setting the hoops far too high. TED suggested the way by combining posts and a period of time to eliminate mechanical spamming but 10 posts over a fortnight ought to be enough to show commitment. I've been here about a month and it seems like a lifetime.

Ask for voting rights?

I prefer some combination of post count and time spent. I like the wording for the eligibility for adminship, and I think it could apply, in part, to members. A member would have to have spent a certain time on the board (say a month or two weeks), and be a noticeable, contributing member in that period of time. This could be 100 posts worth, 1000 or 50, or some other number. This would eliminate people who are members for a month, but have posted once or twice. But this number could also be low enough that in 2 weeks and 10 posts, you have proven some sort of commitment and contribution.

So, in the past half hour I've been:

:Q on coming back here, seeing there are SIX new pages after I left yesterday.
:uhoh: wondering whether it had been my fault somehow, speaking up against membership payments
:doh1: :bang: at seeing the drama unfolding
 over the kissing booth
and finally, something I didn't think I'd feel about this board again anytime soon:
   for everybody in here! :)

I guess I'm rather used to the rough language here, so I wasn't very shocked at Guru's post, as it was clear to me he wasn't condemning any person, and I must say I can understand him in so far as, in spite of some people speaking up against fees, the idea that was dominant yesterday seemed to be that fees were an unavoidable part of anything (as I said above, my first reaction was to worry whether my speaking up against them had started some big discussion).
So, I'm glad that it looks now as if we could have a member-owned board without having to buy our citizen's rights. :D

As to the kissing booths - hmmh, TED, I haven't seen a pic of you yet, I think - I wonder whether saving 25 cents is really worth it! ;)

(See, all your psychological studies aside, money doesn't work on me at all! I don't think anything has no value because it's free, but I don't just buy something because it's a few cents cheaper, either! :P )

And you recognize high quality (me) when you see it.

I don't deny that, Holby, but I'll nevertheless wait until I can make a comparison between you and TED! :P ;)
