This is the forum for discussing everything related to Tolkien's Middle-Earth--books, films, languages, music, art, and philosophy.

:D WoooHoooo and three cheers from Prim! :cheers

erm... :scratch No, I don't think I have any threads that could come in here. Sadly, my brain has been far, very far away from Middle Earth, which I hope to remedy this coming week for I've promised myself to re-insert my muse back into RP, the poor starved thing :Q

But it's really nice to see this forum up and I shall be dipping in whenever I have a spare sec :D

Courage, Hal! :D

Do you have any threads from Movies or Books that belong here?

Good job! :D :cheers

Just because I'm too lazy to read the whole thread about this in business (which I've only glanced at briefly some days ago  ) - why is it the "Hall of Fire"? :Q

It's named after the Hall of Fire in Rivendell, where everyone gathers to talk and to hear songs and tales. Voronwe's idea!

Edit: Thanks, ttbk! Yes, that's an obvious one, and I'll move it pronto! (I'd rather not move threads without their starters' permission if possible. It also slows things down to a more manageable pace. ;) )

Later in the week I'll start poking around looking for likely threads and PMing the starters. For now, I'm responding to requests but otherwise taking a rest. :cheers

Athrabeth, sensing a long-expected party, arrives in the Hall with several bottles of Yellowtail Shiraz (actually, a Shiraz-Cabernet, but I digress) and many exquisitely formed long-stemmed crystal glasses (thank Eru the Imladris Glass Blowers Guild left some of their wares behind before they joined the other pensioners in Elvenhome!).

I would like to propose a toast:

To Voronwe, for visualizing this special place for us all to gather, and to Prim, for making it a reality. Many thanks!

:horse:  :cheers  :horse:

Looks good, people.

Many thanks to laureanna for first suggesting that we needed this forum.
Thanks also to Voronwe for jumping in and starting the poll, and to Prim for expediting the process.

I'll be back.
Eventually.

Thanks, Prim! :) Good name! :cheers

I guess this is the best place to post this, even though it doesn't really have anything to do with Middle-earth per se.

Some may have noticed that I changed my avatar picture. I know that in the past, some people who are now here expressed a sense of happiness and even relief when I returned to using Starry Night back in the day. But that was another time and place. Church at Auvers has long been my very favorite Van Gogh painting; indeed probably my favorite painting period. It somehow feels more right to use that here then to use Starry Night, which feels too much like clinging to that other time and place.

No need for anyone to reply to this (unless someone feels strongly moved to do so). I just thought an explanation was in order (I'm odd that way). We now return to our regularly scheduled Middle-earth discussions, already in progress.

I've never even seen that painting before, Voronwe!

It's beautiful. I'll have to look for a larger image of it--is that a stormy sky behind the church?

Nope, no stormy skies. Except that I think to Vincent, there were always storrmy skies. That's part of his brilliance I think; even a beautiful blue sky can look deep and foreboding
