Stettin, more likely.

Question 1: We will create an office whose function is to oversee hearings and ensure that proper procedure is followed. This person will be a resource for juries and all other participants in a Hearing. It will be their responsibility to be familiar with all aspects of the charter concerning the Outside Forum, Member Rights and Responsibilities, Powers of the Admins and any other issues affecting Hearings.

B. I do not agree to the creation of this Office

Question 2: This office would be an elected office, similar in nature and duration to the office of Mayor but with a different area of responsibility.

B. I do not agree with this statement

Question 3: The title of this office will be:

#1= D
#2= E
#3= B
#4= C
#5= F
#6= A
#7= G

An explanation is necessary from me, I think, as I have been vocal about the different skill sets needed for the two roles being considered as I see them.

I realised that how I envision them is quite sketchy and may have little to do with the reality of those roles - and I feel at a loss to decide on one of them without having fully discussed the other. I think the two roles (if they are going to be two roles, rather than one) need to be looked at together. And I have been swayed recently by opinions stated by others.

However, if the Loremaster role is decided on, I can live with that.

In fact, I'm coming round to the point of view that we should have 3 persons elected as Loremasters to work as a team in all those tasks envisioned to date - because having just one person means they can't get sick, go on holiday or have a RL event without deleterious impact on the MB

I think there should be two, a "senior loremaster" and a "junior loremaster, with year long terms staggered by six months. At the end of the senior's term, the junior would become the senior, and a new junior would be elected. Six months later, that junior would become the senior, and so on. That way, after the initial six months (during which perhaps we could get away with one, particularly if it were Jn ;)) there would always be someone in the role who was experienced with it.

That's another possibility.

V, I keep wanting to take a red pencil to your title...adminator indeed! :P

We're split right down the middle: 7/7

I'll be back to talk about this.

I'm quit willing to change my vote if that's allowed. I'm not sure on reflection if the post is actually needed and in accordance with my recent rant in the other thread I'm all for simplifying matters as much as possible. So assuming I'm allowed to change my vote, that would make it 8/6 in favour of not creating the extra position.

Alatar, no, please don't change your vote. Please don't start doing that people - do you know how many places I record these votes so that there's protection against error?

Three people did not vote yet. There are seventeen members so if everyone votes, we cannot tie.

I will send an email to laureanna (who is moving her mother but expects to be back today), TORN (who also has a heavy workload until today) and Din asking them to please make the effort to vote.

When an issue is this controversial and I know people are basically around, just finding it hard to get online, I would prefer to require that the whole committee vote.

Jn

EDIT: I've email Din, laureanna and TORN and sent them (a) links to the discussion and voting thread (b) the summary I posted above for Hobby.

This thread will stay open until everyone votes because four paragraphs depend on this content.

BALLOT
Interim Vote on Creation of New Office
[Note: this is not actual Charter Text - we are voting on the idea]

Question 1:
B. I do not agree to the creation of this Office

Question 2:
B. I do not agree with this statement

Question 3: The title of this office will be:

I don't care.

I'm generally opposed to the addition of offices of power and responsibility to a loose, democratic, informal, non-committal (dis)organization like B77. I'll say more later, when I get time to think more about it.

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED

We have a simple majority.

Thank you laureanna and Din for running over when you were needed. I know you both had serious stuff going on in RL

Jn

*****

Result: This office will not exist.

Admins, I believe this thread can be locked. There is additional discussion here about the office, but since the office will not be created the discussion will have to take another form. So we should probably lock this and move the talk back the the thread for whatever pararaph we're working on.
