APPROVED TEXT

¶6 Procedure for Hearings to Remove an Administrator
An administrator cannot be removed from office for any offense not specified in Article 3 of the by-laws.

Hearings to remove an Administrator are convened and conducted in the same manner as Hearings on a Community Disruption except that Administrative powers are revoked and the member is restricted to the Jury Room for the duration of the hearing.

The deliberation of the jury is to determine whether or not the offense in question has been committed, and to remove the administrator if they decide that it has. The jury may not issue warnings or impose partial penalties or place any other restrictions on the action of the administrator as an alternative to removing them from office. The administrator either stays in office with full powers or is removed with those penalties specified in Article 3 of the by-laws.
[approved May 16, 2005]

Ummm... I'm trying to find the offences listed in Article 3. Anybody got a quick link?

Nevermind, I found it: http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/viewtopic. ... um=board77

Does this include everything in Article 3 or just this:

Penalties Associated with Removal of an Administrator
• An administrator can be removed from office and barred from holding office in the future for a length of time commensurate with the offense.
•• Pattern of Absences, Failure to Respond and Other Warnings: One year
•• Desertion: One year
•• Breach of Privacy: One year
•• Giving another person access to the Administrator Panel: One year
•• Encouraging criminal behavior: One year
[approved April 18, 2005]

So if someone hacks and destroys b77, or does something so egregious that the phpbb people immediately yank our forums off the web, or if an admin hacks into a member's private stuff and uses it to hurt the member (said member not taking the advice about having a separate password for everything) the wayward admin is given a hearing and barred from office for a year????!?!?!?!

I'm sorry, I missed this part when this was being debated earlier. Having been torched by an admin Elsewhere, I don't think I would have felt all warm and fuzzy if she had just had her admin status taken away. A person can still be powerful and dangerous without admin status.

Personally, I would like to see abusive admins banned, or duct-taped to a wall, or something. :rage: :rage: :rage: :rage: :rage:

Well, there's been considerable opinion expressed against over-reacting, and a general sense that this is unlikely to be a problem if admins cannot become entrenched.

Just btw, hacking etc. is forbidden to all members. We'll be addressing penalties shortly. I think if hacking or other serious offenses were the issue, the person would be 'tried' as a member rather than as an admin. And if banning were the penalty, then they would no longer be an admin either.

It's not really necessary to list in the admin article all the things that members may not do - enough to list in that article the things that would be unique to an admin.

Jnyusa,

It's fine.

laureanna,

You obviously need to spend more time with your sister, Pollyanna. Have her explain Mister Rogers neighborhood to you. ;)

:P

I just finished a university course in Cyberterrorism. Count me paranoid. :Q My team was the best of the four at bringing a hypothetical city to it's knees by attacking Internet-related components of the power utility, gas utility, and local Internet node. I'm not sure if I should be proud of that or not.

OK, so admin power removal is just in the case where the person admins badly. Admins can be heard/banned/whatever as regular folk at any time, for doing anything else to the board. That is good.

But I still say that an admin can do considerable damage by threatening, harrassing, insinuating, rallying, and other nepharious activities just by virtue (vice) of being an admin. Taking away the admin powers certainly stops most of that from continuing, but does not bring justice to the damage.

Actually, I'm hoping that B77 never has power-tripping admins. If it does, I won't wait around for the hearing. I'll be outta here, stumbling around in RL, trying to remember what I used to do there.

All that is covered in the Admin Code of Conduct (¶6 in the Article up for ratification) - oh my child, we can get rid of them for those things. Alandriel made sure of that!! :Q

Seriously, there is a fairly elaborate routine intended to simultaneously protect members and admins from one another. Warnings are given, then formal complaints, and finally, if complaints accumulate, REMOVAL. And members can't pick on admins either, or cook up phony complaints.

oh my child ...

I suspect you were not old enough to have kids when I arrived, Jn ;)

I read the Admin Code of Conduct again. I imagine every admin, on this board and elsewhere, thinks he/she is abiding by those rules.

OK, I really shouldn't post while running a fever.

Sorry to hear about the fever, laureanna!

Fine with me! :)

(laureanna, yes, I suppose if what an admin did didn't only violate the admin code of conduct but also the rules of the board, they's be in for a hearing on that, too.)

Yes, the admin code of conduct is in addition to the regular rules of the board, not instead of them.
