Please choose between the following options:
I think we should present to the membership a yes or no poll on the text that is approved in the interim Mission Statement vote

75% [ 9 ]
I think we should present to the membership an IRV vote done by PM with the choices described in the first post of this thread.

25% [ 3 ]
Total votes: 12

Jn, I think we are much, much, much, much, much more likely to get a quorum if we offer the membership a straight up or down vote then multiple options requiring a ballot sent by PM. People are much more likely to participate if it just means clicking on an option in a poll as opposed to having to actually prepare a ballot and send it to someone. That is one of my biggest worries about trying to do this as a multi-option IRV.

I agree with Voronwe. Turnout was almost twice as high with both our most recent polls as it was with the PM vote, which got only a few votes over a quorum.

So, you don't want to give the members any choices?

We can do a poll with choices, but then we run a real risk of not hitting 2/3.

Jn, as you have already said, the two options are either a poll with a straight up and down vote on the text that we approve in the interim vote, or an IRV PM ballot with the three options we discussed (plus not approving any of them, of course).

I strongly favor the first option.

Ok.

Can we hear from a few more people, though? I'm not totally enthusiastic about doing a PM IRV, but I want to hear from other committee members how big they think the demand is for additional member voice in the final choice.

I think we should hear from everyone in the committee, in the form of a poll between the two options (a straight up or down poll on the interim vote winner versus an IRV PM vote on the three options). Does anyone have any objection to me putting up such a poll?

Cerin assure...assure of...I see your point now! Yes, you are correct I think. Do you think that we can tweak it if necessary after the vote is done?

I can't say that was a consideration in my decision because I didn't notice that nuance.

With regards to a run-off, I support that idea and am willing to count - although I was advised with the Article 6 count that because the vote was anonymous, only the Admins could do so, which puts the onus of work back on those who already do so much of the work.

I think it's really important to allow for greater member input for the MS - it is so fundamental and I believe that while people are willing to compromise on other points in the charter the MS is quite visceral and if they don't feel they've had a proper go at having their say, it just won't get up.

Voronwe Regarding your concern that it will be harder to get people voting with a IRV - I don't think so. Not with the MS. People really feel strongly about the text that will announce us to the world.

As long as we have just the three options (and they will be SHORT after all, not like the textual giants we deal with in the conference), and all they have to do is number them 1, 2, 3, it will not really be such a burden and barrier to voting.

Oh, Imp! Thanks so much for bothering to go through that 'assure' thing. I'm just such a stickler for words and usage. :) Jn says we can tweak the third sentence if necessary.

I wonder if we could delay a poll, Voronwe, until some more committee members weigh in on the discussion. I really want to know what people think. The point about an easy poll more easily reaching a quorum is persuasive, and the other considerations about the importance of the MS are persuasive, too.

Consider the reaction to the Ranger thing in Business. I felt that the members would have appreciated a chance to discuss options there, because it is just a simple and fun thing, not too complicated. I think that might be a good indicator of the kind of reaction to a no-choice MS.

I will delay starting the poll for a couple of more hours, but there really isn't any reason to wait. If you want to wait for more people to express their opinions before voting, then wait to vote. :) Further discussion is not going to influence the options that we will be voting on, and I want to make sure that there is enough time to keep the poll open longer then just 24 hours.

My thought was that people wouldn't bother to discuss, they'd just vote. :)

The two options given in the first post, right? It's just that there has been so much discussion and to-ing and fro-ing that I'm a bit confused (Doesn't help that I'm fuzzy anyway, and that it's all happened in my sleep  )

I'm sorry, but I really have no preference. Since I don't, the poll makes the most sense to me because it is easiest.

Now I'm confused. Where's the poll? Are you going to add it to this thread, Voronwe? If so, please do so quickly. It's already Monday morning in Europe.

Okay, the poll is up. It will remain up for 36 hours, or until everyone has voted.

If anything is unclear, please ask and I will endeavor to explain.

V, the interim vote on Mission Statement thread gives us the poll options, not the final text. Can we see the final text the vote has given us or is that vote still being tallied?

EDIT:
Scratch that. The IRV options are non-options IMO. I'd rather just have the one text, up or down. I voted too. :)

That vote is still being tallied, Imp.

It seems pretty clear, though, that the result will be Q1 - B1

There may or may not be a third sentence.
