Voted yes. Transparency. Also, I think the collaborative work on governance is one of this board's calling cards.

You do have a point, Ethel my dear. Unfortunately, I can't take my vote back. :)

Oh, and btw,

Okay, mind is now made up. :) I'm glad my opinion wasn't off the scale.

I think it's a pretty safe bet, Anthy. I've been on a few, of personal and professional interest, and I've never even heard of a democratically governed board. If someone can correct me, I'd appreciate it.

I'm voting Yes.

I am a naysayer.

I am not pleased to think that people should survey and judge our administrative business from the outside; this is a member-owned board, anyone who wants his say should join.

I voted yes since it gives a false sense of security and also lurkers may be attracted to the learning about the demorcratic aspect of the board. Everyone keeps telling me aour board is going to be all about transparency, well it does not seem too transparent if every forum has to have people to register to sign up. Particularly the business forum since what is done in this forum partially defines our board. Watching online democracy work. Also once we open considering our past as a private board, how is it going to look on opening day when people want to read ehat we are up to and they click on a forum and it says you have to register to read it? If we truly have nothing to hide like everyone has been telling me, then why make this unreadable?

We have nothing to hide.

Voted yes yet again. See zero compelling reason to make it non-readable and therefore it should be readable.

Voted yes on readability! :D

There's no sensitive info here, and if someone likes the way we do business then they are probably right for this place.
This is an elementary part of our "style", just like the Turf or the Symposium, IMO, by which people can see "who we are". :)

Several months ago I found a forum called The Admin Zone, a "self-help" site for admins.
They have a whole forum dedicated to "how to keep your members in line". There were a few questions by owners of democratically run boards (so they exist ;) ) - that is, the owners wanted the board to be democratic, and put decisions to the vote etc.
The questions usually ran something like: the members of my board are impossible to please, whatever I do, someone complains.
The answers from the other admins usually ran something like: you must be stark-raving mad to want your board to be a democracy - put your foot down and tell your members who's the boss!
Scared the hell out of me, I can tell you.

Let's show them it can work! :D

I think this forum speaks volumes as to how this board really operates. It really is an essential part of the whole, and for unregistered visitors, one of the clearest indicators of the thought, care, time, and energy that many here put into making b77 a "democratically governed internet community" (as it is to its members, too  ). It's the "walk" that truly reflects the charter's "talk", and should be proudly open for all to read. :horse:

I agree, Ath. I would change my vote if I could. Hopefully, enough people will agree that it will become a non-issue.

TH - at some point I am going to suggest that we advertise our board in admin forums like that and in cyber-mags. I do think we're launching something here that is unique and workable and a model of things to come for internet communities.

:LMAO: that's what they always say about genius ;)

Voronwe: since you truly have changed your mind I'm sure this can be accommodated 'manually' in the final count though I do hope this will eventually come to a clear YES when more votes are in.

and why am I always posting a few mins/secs behind Jny? :Q It's definitely hight time I get to bed!

Viv, thanks for expressing that opinion. As it stands right it would be the decisive vote. I am certainly hoping that it becomes a moot point. :)

Its a lesson to me, however, about not voting in polls like this prematurely. I really need to learn to give some thing more thought.

Yeah, I think I probably would be, too. But before everybody starts changing their vote, let's see the results. If there were people who wanted to switch from yes to no, we'd have a giant mess on our hands.

Um, I think I voted too soon too. At least I'm in good company. Er, put me down as a "yes" who voted no too soon.
