A problem I see with this is that it implies that the participants didn't wish to "lay it to rest" until June 26 (since that is said to be why it was locked, and the locking date will be posted).

Edit:Another thing: This sticky in Welcome needs to be replaced with an updated one done by Administrator.

Yes, that one is on my to-do list, Prim - I PMed Estel about it yesterday, just like Leoba and Guru, only I had answers from them right away. I'm taking silence as agreement, of course, but wanted to give it a day - will do so tonight! :)

As to the new suggestions: I like "the board has moved on from these events" very much! Can't tell why without writing a long analysis about it, but it sounds friendly and calm.

I like laureanna's too, only - I'm not sure, but doesn't "lay to rest" also mean "bury" something?

Is your to-do list in this thread, Hobby, or have you written your name next to items in the first post? I need to sort out a bunch of things tonight, and I don't want to duplicate your (or anyone's) efforts! :D

While I am fine with with laureanna's suggestion, I do like "the board has moved on from these events" better.

I do, too. There's the problem I mentioned with the thread locking date, too.

Edit: Hobby, I really think the mention of ToE needs to come out of your new Current Rangers thread in Welcome. We've gone to a lot of trouble to explain ToE elsewhere, and the access information is out of date. Furthermore, it says "This forum contains explicit posts," which I never have liked—I think will give people a lurid idea of what's in there.

What do you all think?

Um, I posted it - but not sure if here or in "touching base" - sorry!

I just posted the new thread, but I have a few questions:

First, I swapped the dates for Nin and me on adminning, but I set her end of term date to July 9th, as she had asked - I posted somewhere whether people are alright with this, but haven't heard back, so I took it to be ok.

Second: I don't know the dates for Eru's temp adminning

Third: what should we do with the "special permission" info in there? I was about to update it, but it seemed to me it doesn't really belong in there in the first place?
So I thought I'd ask before I spend a lot of time on writing an update on this one, when I could just delete it. ;)

I was editing while you were posting!

If you agree, I think that can simply come out. It's covered elsewhere and what's there is out of date.

LOL, I just edited there, too - didn't notice any other edits. :scratch

Good idea, out with the ToE info, then!

I've thought it might be a good idea to link to the admin powers and eligibility stuff in our charter from that post - what do you think?
(And if you know where to find such a link quickly, please go ahead - I'd have to look for it  )

Edit: I messed with the title, too. What do you think - or should we leave the original?

(I meant I was editing my post—wasn't clear though! I didn't do anything in the thread.)

I like that title, because it's actually two questions in one! :)

Hobby, you are right, "laid to rest" is a euphemism for "buried".

We don't have to give a date locked, and there is no automatic date stamp when we edit as admins.

The reason it was suggested that we include the date that it is locked is so that new members did not think that the discussion ended because the thread was locked. I don't remember who pointed that out (I think it was Hobby, but I'm not sure), but I definitely agree with that reasoning.

Me, too. Someone fresh from TORC would probably assume that was the sequence of events unless we do give a date. I know I would have.

I don't think I said that. :scratch I don't really mind whether we put a date or not.
I guess laureanna meant that putting a date there shows that we locked them in a hurry before opening, and might hence be a bit embarrassing. But as the thread discussing these threads is going to be visible, I think it will be clear that they were locked recently, so we can add the date just as well. And, yes, it would avoid confusion such as V and Prim describe.

Thanks - I was thinking this meaning may come across as a bit ironic in the context, don't you think? ;) :)

Re things to do: Alandriel asked me yesterday to start a thread in welcome for people to give their e-mail and IM handles, which an admin would collect in the first post - laureanna suggested it in her thread in welcome.
I just wasn't sure if that meant it was agreed we are having that thread, so I thought, before I start it, I'd ask for some more input here - do you guys agree to have such a thread? (Personally, I find it a bit unnecessary, with all the buttons underneath the posts, but Alandriel said they didn't always work. :scratch )

I don't have any strong feelings on the matter, but I do tend to think it would be unnecessary, and I have not had a problem with any of the buttons (but I don't do IM, so maybe that's why; I've only clicked on PM, email, or website buttons).

I haven't had a problem with the buttons either, and I think I would be quite uncomfortable as a new registrant to be asked to publicly post my e-mail and handle! Some people don't choose to display them at all, and even though I do, I prefer keeping it on my profile.

I think this request would come across as invasive and presumptuous, and certainly unwelcoming. I don't think it's a good idea.

Good point, Prim!
I agree that it's not something to have around for the opening, it could come across as if we expected newbies to hand in their details for publication first thing. If the need should be felt at some later time, we can still launch such a thread. :)

Thanks for the input, V and Prim - I'll not start such a thread just yet, then. :)

I have created the Michel Delving forum. I have given Jn permission to post and such in it, and have given All_Members permission to View and Read.
