BALLOT

Question 1: What is your preference for a naming the new archive-type forum for storage of old business and jury room threads? Please list in order of preference.

B
G
D
F
C
A
H
I
E

Question 2:
B= no

Question 3: What is your preference for a subtitle (explanatory) of the new forum? Please list in order of preference

E-Threads documenting important developments in board77's history.

I really don’t like the reference to history becoming myth, which rather scuppers my vote on this one.

Hey! Everybody has voted!

Here's my results of the runoff, for Alandriel and Alatar to confirm in the morning:

Q1: I = 10; F = 5

Q2: No, unanimous taking people's provisional notes into account

Q3: E = 12; A = 3

So ... Threads of Historical Interest: Threads documenting important developments in board77's history.

Hm, that ended up being rather redundant. I'm wondering if we could leave the word "threads" off the subtitle.

I agree. Impy's statement might be related to the same concern.

I get the following:

Q1: I = 10; F = 5

Q2: No, unanimous taking people's provisional notes into account

Q3: E = 13; A = 2

Can you recheck question 3 Jnyusa? Not sure if I've made a mistake or you have.

Alatar

My counting same as Jny :)

Q1: I = 10; F = 5

Q2: No, unanimous taking people's provisional notes into account

Q3: E = 12; A = 3

Threads of Historical Interest: Threads documenting important developments in board77's history

I think we can safely amend that to:

Threads of Historical Interest (main title)
Documenting important developments in board77's history (byline)

Or possibly even scratch 'documenting' just leaving 'Important developments in board77's history'... sounds a bit better to me)

I like that last one, but don't really mind either way. :)

Oops! My mistake. I did another countback on Question 3 and got the same result as Jny and Alandriel.

Q3: E = 12; A = 3

I agree that we can safely eliminate the redundant second "Threads" but i would not want to scratch 'documenting' unless a majority of the committee agrees to do so.

"Documenting" is what the forum does—I would say it needs to stay.

Edit: I'm going to go rename it now. If there is consensus to delete "Documenting," I'll go back and do it.

I prefer "Important Events in b77's History." If we have the documenting, it seems like it should say what's doing the documenting, like there's a word missing. Also, it says in the title that there are threads of historical interest, so it seems like the "documenting" would be implied.

Technically, we don't need a word in front of 'documenting' -- it modifies the forum title, but if people feel uncomfortable without something there, it could be "forum documenting ..." or "forum for documenting ..."

I'll implement whatever most people agree on.

I just wanted to tidy the forum list up a bit. (And also prove we don't pick just "twee Tolkien names" for things. :D )

I would prefer to either cut out documenting or have "a forum documenting. . . ".

However, if the rest of the committee disagrees, I'll be amenable to whatever they choose.

I think it is OK either way, although I would have left it off, if I were writing it.

A question to the Rangers:

Is the forum read and posting rights enabled to all registered members? Are the settings going to be read only when we open? Just trying to get things straight. Thanks :)

Alandriel, I set the permissions in All_Members to read only (View and Read are ON, but members cannot post).

When we open, the individual permissions for this forum will be switched to ALL for View and Read only. Everything else stays set at PRIVATE so we can control it with groups. The effect will be that nonmembers will also be able to read the forum, but still no one will be able to post (because of the setting in All_Members).

I hope that makes sense. I am too close to this, I think! :)

I prefer:

Threads of Historical Interest (main title)
Documenting important developments in board77's history (byline)

I can live with:

Threads of Historical Interest (main title)
Important developments in board77's history (byline)

I have a problem with anything that adds something before Documenting.

Alatar
