Now just wait. I am not going to start hearing Streisand everytime I open the forum am I?

"Threads of Historical Interest" is simple and matter of fact. I kind of like it. No gilt either. "And So It Began" I'm not sure of.

I have a couple of comments. :)

1. We have far too many suggestions to conduct a reasonable vote with. When the number of choices far exceeds the number of people voting, you know that there is a problem. We need to whittle down the choices before we vote.

2. Either The Red Book (or some variation therein) needs to be removed from the list, or we need to hold a vote on the actual name of the charter before we vote on this. I think that we can all agree that the actual name of the charter (which will need to be ratified by the membership, IMO) is more important then the name of the history forum. As long as the Red Book is a candidate for the name of the charter, we should not be voting on it as a possible name for the forum.

All in my imperiously humble opinion, of course. :)

Could I suggest then that any names there are reservations about are removed.

Then any titles where there are multiple versions are clumped into one (eg Mathom's). If Mathom's win, we simply look at the group and revote on which varient. (I know, complex, but its culling the heard here)

The Red Book would be a beter name for the Charter overall IMHO as well ;)

I like "Threads of Historical Interest".

It's simple and self explanatory. It's also unlikely to attract casual bystanders and bore them to death. :)

Okies... so I've updated the first post. I've taken out The Vault &
Red Book, but added 'And So It Began ...' as well as the subtitle of
'Threads documenting important developments in board77's history'.

I suggest to open this up for a vote Tuesday morning (GMT) and letting it run for 48 hours. Please yell if you have reservations. And please, no more suggestions either, because I think we have more than plenty.

Someone willing to help me do the counting for verification?

Just for the record, even though its not listed on Viv's list, I continue to like Chamber of Marzabul the best.

One more comment about the proposed questions.
Quote:
Question 2: Do you approve of adding 'of board 77' to the name? Select one
This only makes sense for a few of the names. It would makes sense to say "The Annals of board77" or the "Chronicles of board77". It would not makes sense to say "The Chamber of Marzabul of board77" or "And So it Began of board77."

Voronwe
K-Chamber of Marzabul (suggested by Dindraug) it's listed ;)

And yes you're right re the subline. In some case it will make sense in others it won't. And I think we'll all be able to agree on that.
For me, personally, I don't see the point at all of adding 'of b77'. We ARE on b77, this IS b77... no need to re-iterate it. But that's IMO and does not have to be everybody elses point of view.

Do you want me to reword Question 2?
Do you approve of adding 'of board 77' to the name unless the majority secelcts:The Chamber of Marzabul, And So It Began ? Select one
A = yes
B= no

And thanks for confirming help Jny & Alatar :)

Yes, I know that its listed. What I was saying is that it doesn't say that I support it, only that Maiden does. :P

Do you want me to reword Question 2?[/quote]

However you want to handle it. :) Hopefully you'll be able to post a ballot for review before we start voting.

Sorry Voronwe: that you supported it, will now be added asap.

As to rewording or not question two, well, the ballot as it would appear is as it appears right now in post one of this thread. It is up for review right now. If you'd like me to change the wording then please say how or tell me my second suggestion as of above is better. Then I can go and change it. Otherwise, the voting on this will start tomorrow morning GMT approx. 10.00 am when I'm back on the computer. (I'll be around tonight later also of course but now I'm off to a mini-moot) :)

I propose eliminating the following choices to make the vote a little more dealable:

B- History Archive (suggested by laureanna)
Reservations: having two forums named 'Archive'

C- Mathom Closet(suggested by Prim)
Support from Alandriel
Resevations from TH,

E- Mathom Room (suggested by Impenitent)

F- Mathom Chest (suggested by Leoba)

G- Book of lost Tales (suggested by IS)
Support: IS, Alatar
Reservations: Voronwe

The last one for sure should be removed as Idylle said that he did not mean it as a serious suggestion. I think there should be only one Mathom choice, and Mathom House had more support then any of the others by far. I think the confusion over having two forums called "archive" is enough to eliminate that choice.

I like Alatar's suggestion: "Threads of Historical Interest," as an alternative to the History Forum.

Also, The Way it Began is not really accurate because presumably we will add to this forum as we go along, when we change ownership for example. You can leave it on the ballot, but I thought I would express my opinion that it is not an appropriate name.

My favourite is the keep. I'm a supporter of that one.

I'd just like to say that adding "... of Board77" seems unnecessary to me.

And I like options E and H of the subtitles equally well, which is not surprising because they both say the same thing: ;)

Threads documenting important developments in board77's history.

This "history become legend" business is too cutesy for my taste, so I don't support any of those.

Alandriel - I would like to see it on the ballot because I'll vote for it if it's there. :)
