Welcome to New Members

Welcome to board77! I hope you will enjoy reading and posting in our forums.

Board77 is a member-moderated board. After you have been with us for a while you will be eligible to participate in our governance. This email contains information about your eligibilities and how to activate them. This email also contains information about our age-restricted forum and those forums that are invisible to non-registered members.

I would like to direct you first to your Member Rights and Responsibilities posted here:
http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/viewtopic. ... rd77#89291

Second, we have a Charter that contains our mission, principles, by-laws and plans for the future. You can read a summary of the Charter here:
http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/viewtopic. ... rd77#89294

The full Charter can be read or downloaded here:
http://uk.geocities.com/b77_ad/CharterIndex.htm

After you have been with us for three months and have made 100 posts, you will be eligible to serve as a juror and mediator. Board77 does not ban or restrict the access of members without giving them a Hearing, and our jurors listen to both sides of each case and make these decisions. Mediators help members resolve interpersonal disputes. Shortly before you become eligible for the jury pool, you will receive an email asking whether you are interested in serving the board in this capacity. Meanwhile, everything you need to know about jury duty and mediation can be found in our Handbook for Jurors, Mediators, and Loremasters: http://uk.geocities.com/b77_ad/Handbook ... ndbook.htm

After you have been with us for six months with a visible, contributory posting presence on our board, you will be eligible to serve as a Ranger. Rangers are our administrators. We have no moderators on Board77. You will receive an email shortly in advance of your eligibility asking if you would like to train as a Ranger. Meanwhile, everything you need to know about administration of the board can be found in our Handbook for Rangers:
http://uk.geocities.com/b77_ad/Handbook ... ndbook.htm

As soon as you registered you became entitled to vote on all issues that affect the board. Even if you are not interested in serving as a Ranger or juror, we hope that you will participate in all votes as a full-fledged member of our community.

We have one age-restricted forum, called “Thinking of England.”
Topics that are not suitable for children are allowed in this forum, and you must be 18 years of age or older to participate. Because of the personal nature of some conversations, we ask that you wait until you have been on the board three months and have 100 posts before joining the forum. There are other courtesies that fellow-members ask of you while posting there. These are explained in the ‘sticky’ welcome thread at the top of the forum and can also be read here, in Article 6 of the Charter:
http://uk.geocities.com/b77_ad/CharterIndex.htm

Once you meet the eligibility requirements, you may PM or email a Ranger and ask to have your permissions enabled for that forum.

There are three forums that are not visible to non-registered members. These are: the Outside Forum where Hearings are held and interpersonal disputes between members are resolved; M77t and Geek where real life events are planned; and the Members’ Lounge where you can discuss any topic that you might not want published by the search engines which scan the web.

There is one forum that is not visible to registered members on a routine basis. This is the Sensitive Information Forum used by the Rangers and the Mayor for storing or discussing private matters such as the permissions of individual members. However, all members have opportunity to serve as Rangers and while you are a Ranger this forum will be visible to you. Forum Management, in which Rangers conduct daily business, is routinely visible to all registered members.

Board77 is very proud of its member governance and we hope you will find it interesting and fulfilling to be a member of our community.

With best wishes,
Erunáme, b77 Mayor

Notice of Eligibility for Jury Pool

Congratulations!

You are now eligible to serve as a Juror, Mediator, or Loremaster on Board77.

You are aware by now that we are a member-moderated community. Our members are entitled to a Hearing if there has been a violation of our by-laws. Jurors hear all sides of the case and make a decision whether the by-laws have been violated, and what penalty, if any, is appropriate.

It is a serious responsibility, but one which members must take upon themselves if we don’t want to have a central authority handing out bans and restrictions.

We have a Handbook for Jurors, Mediators, and Loremasters which you can read to acquaint yourself with these positions:
http://uk.geocities.com/b77_ad/Handbook ... ndbook.htm

In addition to volunteering for the Jury Pool, you can volunteer to serve as a Mediator and/or Loremaster.

If members have taken a personal dispute to The Bike Racks, they may request a Mediator to help them reach agreement. The mediator does not have to decide who is right and who is wrong but only to assist the members in finding their own way to a resolution.

Loremasters are responsible for ensuring that proper procedure is followed during a Hearing. They serve at the request of the jury and must be thoroughly familiar with the provisions of our Charter. If you have an interest in legal issues and an eye for detail, you may find this position a fun challenge.

All of these positions are voluntary, and even if you agree to enter the Jury Pool as a Juror, Mediator or Loremaster, you do not have to serve on a particular hearing or help with a particular dispute if you don’t want to.

We hope though that you will be committed enough to our community serve in some capacity. In another three months approximately, you will become eligible to serve as a Ranger and we will contact you again as that date approaches.

If you have an interest in entering the Jury Pool or would like more additional information, Reply to this email and tell us which position interests you and what questions you may have.

We look forward to having you join us in the governance of Board77.

Best wishes,
Erunáme, b77 Mayor

Notice of Eligibility for Ranger Pool

Once a month, the Mayor will check the member list to see who will become eligible within the next month, give that list to the Rangers who have the email addresses, and the Rangers will copy this letter and send it to those members. As answers come in, the Mayor will add New Entrants to the Ranger Pool thread in Michel Delving.
__________________________________________________________

Congratulations!

During the coming month you will become eligible to serve as a Ranger.

You are aware by now that Board77 has no moderators. Our members take turns serving as Rangers and handling the administrative functions of the board.

If you would like an idea of what is involved in being a Ranger, you can practice on our experimental board at any time. Register at the link below with your b77 username, which you can activate yourself upon email verification. Before beginning, read the important announcements and stickies on the experimental board.
http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/index.php? ... experiment

We also have a Handbook for Rangers which gives you the Ranger Code of Conduct and How To Do Everything.
http://uk.geocities.com/b77_ad/Handbook ... ndbook.htm

Current Rangers and Former Rangers are willing to help you train, and you will not leave the training pool or be scheduled for a term of office until you feel comfortable with your new skills. You can get an idea of how the training and scheduling work by reading The Ranger Pool thread in the Mayor’s forum.
http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/viewtopic. ... um=board77

If you have any interest at all in serving as a Ranger, please respond positively to this email. Confirm for us:
(1) that you are 18 years of age or older;
(2) what time zone you live in;
(3) what your native language is.
We will answer any questions you may have and help you prepare to serve as a Ranger.

We look forward to having you join us as one of the administrators of Board77.

Best wishes,
Erunáme, b77 Mayor

Agreement to Enter ToE

When requests are received to activate permissions for ToE, Rangers will copy this letter and send it to the member to obtain their agreement with the terms of participation.
__________________________________________________________

Greetings and welcome [name of poster],

We have received your request for permission to post in the Thinking of England forum and are pleased to confirm that you meet the Board requirements of three months membership of B77 and 100 posts on the Board.

The members who post in the Thinking of England forum have established some specific guidelines by which all must abide in order to post in that forum. These guidelines have been established to preserve the privacy of posters and to ensure that all can use the forum with comfort and a degree of security. We remind you, however, that nothing posted on the internet can be guaranteed to be secure.

These guidelines also appear in the sticky note at the top of the forum and have been ratified by the membership of B77 in our Charter. Before we switch on your access to this forum, we ask you to read the guidelines and agree, by return email, to abide by them. As soon as we receive your confirmation by email you will be given access to the forum. You should then be able to see the Thinking of England subforum in The Round Table forum and be able to read and post in the threads. Please PM or email a Ranger if your access doesn't come through in a timely manner (but please also give us 24 hours leeway to give the Rangers time to do what is necessary).

ToE posters are a friendly and welcoming group and you are encouraged to introduce yourself when you arrive in the forum by posting in The n00bie thread.
http://www.board77.net/viewtopic.php?t=1596

But there's no hurry; if you wish to wait and find your feet first, that is perfectly acceptable.

We hope you enjoy the forum as part of your B77 experience!

Guidelines for posters in the Thinking of England forum:

1. Do not post or read in the Thinking of England forum (ToE) if you are under the age of 18.
If you are easily offended by conversations of a sexual nature, or are legally too young to read them (under 18 years of age), then this forum is not for you. Please contact a Ranger (administrator) to be disallowed access to the forum should you be underage or have not requested access. By reading and posting in this forum, you acknowledge that you are over the age of 18. The Rangers and owners of this website cannot be held responsible for any minors who access this forum.

2. Do not repeat anything from the ToE forum to anyone who is not a member of the ToE!
Please do not discuss or allude to anything discussed in the forum elsewhere on this board, elsewhere on the net or where an individual’s privacy may be compromised. If you do not see a person posting in the ToE forum, assume that they do not have access. It cannot be emphasized enough how important privacy is in this forum. If you feel you cannot respect that, please PM a Ranger immediately, so that your permissions for this forum can be removed.

3. Do not post explicit pictures in the ToE forum. There are people here who post from work, and the picture you post could be the picture that gets them fired from their job.

4. Do not post erotic chat in the ToE forum.
If you want to describe what you want to do to/with another poster sexually, take it to email / YM / IM or a message board where that is allowed or encouraged. In other words, no cyber-sex. There are plenty of other venues to take part in that type of conversation. Don't do it here.

5. ToE posters are encouraged to be alert to abusive or exploitive behaviour (especially taking advantage of another’s emotional vulnerability, youth, or inexperience in adult environments). Posters are encouraged to act on conscience when they witness such behaviour and to report any violation of the B77 by-laws to the Rangers.

For more background info, see our Charter, Article 6: Age Restricted Forum.
http://uk.geocities.com/b77_ad/CharterIndex.htm

===

Please confirm by return email that you have read and agree to abide by these guidelines.

With thanks,

Rangers of B77

Age Confirmation
(This letter is not currently in use)

When a new member registers, send them this letter to obtain confirmation that they are 13 years of age or older before activating their membership. If the Mayor email address is used to do this, you will have to check that email every day.
__________________________________________________________

Thank you for registering at board77!

We apologize for this double notification you are receiving. Board77 is situated on a free phpbb server, and we are not able to control the automatic notifications that go out to new registrants.

The purpose of this second notification is to let you know that Board77 is open to members 13 years of age or older. Our forums offer nothing of entertainment value for young people and we do not provide the internet protections that are required for posters under the age of 13.

You must be 13 years of age or older to register at Board77. If you click “Reply” to this email, you are certifying that you are at least 13 years of age. We will then activate your registration immediately.

Thank you for your patience!

Erunáme, Mayor
