*hands Alandriel a patch for her eye and a mug of ale*

Actually, to me, "a light hand on the tiller" has even a more precise meaning... and one I think fits Alandriel very well.

It has to do with adjusting the steering of a ship... using the tiller to affect the rudder, the base, the counterbalance of the ship... lightly in response to the changes of the wind.

An inexperienced or anxious sailor will, when they sense a change in the direction of the wind, wrench the tiller back and forth with great changes to direction. More often than not they then tend to have to compensate for their actions immediately and push the tiller back again. This can cause a zig-zag course through the sea, with a great deal of wasted energy and time.

A sailor with a light hand on the tiller adjusts the steering slightly, carefully, confidently, in response to the slightest change of wind; the ship can sail the straightest possible course, with the least wasted effort.

I think this describes our Alandriel's efforts here very well!

:cheers

I defer to the wider knowledge and more graceful phrasing of Anthriel the wise.

Well, I think this occasion calls for a song of celebration!

*ahem*

Sing now, ye people of the Board of Double Seven,
for the hidden realm is ended for ever,
and the Invite forum is thrown down.

Sing and rejoice, ye people of the Committee,
for your efforts have not been in vain,
and the Members have voted
and the Charter has been ratified
and you are victorious.

Sing and be glad, all ye Children of the Board,
for new members shall be coming
and they shall spam among you
all the hours of the day.

And the Board that was closed shall be renewed,
and post counts shall be in the high places
and the Members shall be blessed.

Sing all ye people!

And now, the totally officious, indubitably pretentious, inexcusably belated

WELCOME TO ALL THE NEW MEMBERS OF B77

:cheerleader: :cheerleader: :cheerleader: :cheerleader:

from your honorary, temporary Mayor who thanks you all from the bottom of her heart for the signature honor of being allowed to show up here wearing a tuxedo and a wig and send these greetings throughout the land.

and it just came home to me that poor Mayor is locked inside Michel Delving and will have to change clothes to join in phase II

Teh Parteh

* Tries to recall everything she ever learned in acting classes on impersonating an angry mob! *

Scowls. Shakes pitchfork in one hand, punches the air furiously with the other. Clearns throat noisily and spits in the dirt.

Right then! Let's storm the barriers! er...I mean, the Jury Room! I've got the Molotov cocktails and the...er...the er...sling shots! That's it! I've got sling shots!

Hmmm, perhaps I should rephrase that.

Prim - :salmon: - I put smilies and "(j/K)" to my definition of "light hand on the tiller"!

Actually, though, I didn't know the expression had to do with sailing - I thought it had to do with tilling! :Q

Hehe, Alandriel, yes, there were quite a few PMs :P - but I'm flattered that you trust me with getting the things done!

Ath - ROFL - thanks for the official hymn of b77! :D

She told me to lock her in here.

My secret is out. The bottom drawer of the Mayor's desk is stocked with Flor de Cana.

15 men on a mayor's desk
yo ho ho and a bottle of rum

That's what it looked like in here last night. Really. :drunk:

How wonderful, you all really managed to turn this anarchist exile into a growing, blossoming republic. And there's still the sweet taste of anarchy ... I would have liked two mayors just for the beauty of it, but one Jny (the B77enjamin Franklin) is good enough for three.

I hope I have more time to spend here again soon.

:cheers :cheers :cheers
