My very dear friends of Board77,

I just had the most fun ever here, being Mayor for the day to set up this new forum.

The Rangers will shortly change the permissions to this forum so that it is read-and-write for everyone.

I've put up announcement/sticky threads for the Mayor's Greeting, Record Keeping, and Form Letters for the Rangers to use. There's also a thread for new members to read their Member Rights & Responsibilities loud and clear, and to have a summary of our Charter at their fingertips.

Please post here any comments you have about the contents of the Announcement and Sticky threads - suggestions for additional info useful to members? typos spotted? any other kind of general info thread you think members might look for here? ... I'd really appreciate feedback because it was a lot to come up with on my own and I'm sure I overlooked some things.

ALSO - as this was one of the last things that had to be done before we could open, a bit of celebration is in order! :cheers

Jnyusa
Honorary, Temporary Mayor

Just posting here to say two things:

1. Folks should be able to post in this forum now.

2. and  to an "honorary" Mayor worthy of honoring.

Thank you so much, folks. It was really my pleasure to do this, and I do feel honored that you allowed me to be the one to do it.

Alandriel suggested that we add the dates of Temporary Rangers terms served so that (a) people's contribution is visible to all, and (b) the work gets spread evenly.

Those of you who have served a temp term, could you post it here so that I can add that info to The Ranger Pool thread? Thanks!

I'm going to collect suggestions/ corrections etc. and do them all once a day because I have to switch logins to do that.

Also, people who joined before we opened to the public are eligible now for Ranger and Jury Duty but we've locked the volunteer threads in the B-forum so that n00bs don't think they're supposed to volunteer there. So, if you're inclined to volunteer for something, please PM Jnyusa. It is possible now to PM Mayor, but I'm not going to walk around in that suit so things will reach me quicker through the Jnyusa i.d. You can also email:

mayor_b77@yahoo.com, thanks to the speedy work of Alandriel.

Rangers, let me know if you agree that it would be convenient for Rangers to have the password to the email account so that welcome letters and eligibility letters can be sent from it. That way you won't have to forward replies to the mayor - the mayor can pick them up his/herself.

Jn

It would definitely be convenient, Jn, and would also let Rangers cover that if the Mayor had to be away for a while.

Nice place you've got here. Much better carpet. Is it Karastan?

While I'm here—what would you think of having Michel Delving in Welcome—say, tucked in between Business and History?

Welcome forum is fine with me. As long as I can keep the carpet, which is pure Shire wool weave if you must know. :)

:cheers

Cheers to the honorary Mayor! :D

*clinks glasses with everybody around*

*clinks too enthusiastically and spills some sparkley*

Ooops - well, that sure was a nice carpet! But I trust that'll dry without leaving a trace. Or at least not much of a trace.
And you did say to break a bottle over Michel Delving! :P :D

As to a place for the forum - yep, right beneath Business is best I think.

(The town hall is supposed to be in the center of the town, isn't it? ;) )

Well, I tried to do that veeeeery gently—I hope I didn't knock over any furniture, or God forbid the champagne. We are now in Welcome. Please reset your watches as you deplane.

And THAT is the understatement of the century.

Thank you so much to Jn, who cannot possibly be thanked enough for the endless depths of incredibleness she has shared with us all!

<pity about the carpet, really... that stain is quite distracting... :P>

Ah, but it is a Magic Carpet -- stains miraculously disappear, leaving cookies in their place. :P

First most important wine rule to learn.
White wines go with carpets. Red wines go with lino.

Jn, it's looking spic and span and perfectly set up for hospitality. :)

Thank you to you, thank you to all the Rangers who have worked their tail off picking up all the untidy mess left behind by the opening preparations, thank you to Alandriel whose positive energy is always felt (and such a light hand on the tiller, too! :) ) and thank you to all the conventioneers (especially Vinny, whose mission in life was to meet the end of June deadline).

I've been a lazy cow with regards to all the feverish last minute work that needed doing, but being a shameless hussy I'm entirely willing to partake of a glass of red or two and enjoy the party anyway. ;)

:cheers all!

A light hand on the tiller, aye?

I need a translation for that :help:

But I won't stand you describing yourself as a lazy cow, oh no! You've done a lot too and you more than deserve a glass or two or five of a gorgeous red.

BTW - CONGRATULATIONS ON 1000 wonderful, utterly spam free posts! :D :cheers

I'm popping a bottle of champagne tonight at just past midnight GMT and I shall toast to all of you (for real!!!) :D

and then I shall :bawl: :D :bawl: :D :bawl: :D .. and go to bed and have wonderful dreams of a bright future all made possible because YOU all made it possible.

Well, it will be 5 PM here on the North American West Coast, which has been mathematically determined to be the precise moment when the sun passes over the yardarm (another nautical metaphor for you, Alandriel), and I will be here with a glass of Shiraz (of course) to press a few of the buttons.

I'm deeply grateful to everyone who worked so hard to make this happen—Jnyusa, Alandriel, all the committee members, the other Rangers—especially Voronwë, for that last kick-start of determination that got us here, now, with everything done.

When we set out to make the charter I had a naive idea of the time it would take. Then in the middle of the process I was wondering if we would finish this year—it seemed so daunting. Then Jn pushed us forward, and Voronwe too, and the membership supported the charter by a wide majority, and here we are, with the unsolvable solved, and everything neatly stickied and filed, and the carpet freshly vacuumed.

Thank you all. :cheers

:grouphug:

I love B77!

It means you're a merciless slave-driver, but ever so nice about it! :P ;)
(j/k)

I had planned on staying sober, but I'm beginning to waver. ;)

You said we'd get to the beach by April! :rage:
My beach towel and spanking new bathing suit are getting all dusty in a corner here!

Seriously, though - reading back in some of the old threads recently, discussing invites and the possibilities for opening, it was strange to read the uncertainty, the lack of direction - the general feeling seeming that we might open this year still. :blackeye

So, yes, thanks to all who worked so hard to get everything in place and ship-shape, especially Jny for being the great guiding force behind the structure we created for this board, and Voronwe for giving us the last friendly push to cross the finish-line!

:cheers

Alandriel, Hobby is joshing you. <waggles admonitory finger at Hobby>

"A light hand on the tiller" means you're steering the boat neatly and precisely.

"The sun is over the yardarm" means it's time for grog, matey. Arrrggghhh! Though that time on British vessels in the Napoleonic era was noon.

:LMAO:

Hobbi is right though(in her own way ;) ): a merciless slave-driver, but ever so nice about it! - Just how many PMs from me are in your inbox? :halo: I'm just so grateful you've taken the barrage with a smile and a lot of patience :)

And I definitely follow 'The sun is over the yardarm' :D Who cares about a slight discrepancy of time interpretation :D
