1. I don’t remember why it was decided to send the letters by emails, but I do recall there was some discussion about it, in this thread in fact. I don’t have time to slog through it all now, but it’s in here somewhere. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that earlier on the number of letters being sent was very high and email allowed for mass sendings instead of one at a time. Obviously not a problem anymore. The only benefit I can see now is that the email procedure allows for verifiable crosschecking by the Rangers and Mayor and leaves a papertrail that can be used by the Mayor for her record keeping. Neither of which is that great of an importance, imo, so I have no problem leaving up to her to do by PM. I agree that it might be more effective that way.

2. I think the mayor handling the calender is a great idea. I assume Holby has done that already?

Eru, I’ be happy to post a note in the Forum management thread, but what is it they are supposed to be checking here? Besides, you know, everything.

I had to create another group, called Mayor, in order to give Eru permission to be Calendar admin.
I hope I didn't screw it up.
The Rangers are also calendar admins, and all members have viewing abilities.
Someone check and make sure I didn't screw up.
Btw Eru your username is the one in the Mayor group.

That's what Jn said too.

Just checking up on any new posts just in case there's something that I'm needing from them, that's all. :)

The Calendar works fine Holby. :) Thanks for letting my username be able to access it. Saves me the trouble of having to log into the Mayor's account.

I've just checked that Ranger roster (I'm a curious cat) and discovered that I'm still on it, with a little note saying not currently available - and same in the mediators listing.

May I ask, please, please, that you remove me altogether from the Ranger roster and mediators listing? I meant well when I put my hand up, civic responsibility and all, but really...we all know I'm just not cut out for that kind of thing. I'm too sensitive, I blow in whatever direction the current wind is blowing, I have little time to call my own and I'm just plain wrong for the job.

I know it, you all know it.

So...let's just call a spade a shovel and take me off the list? Please?

I will be very grateful. :)

Fine, I removed you.

The reason Jn didn't remove you, at least from the Ranger roster, was just in case you might have changed your mind. She was trying to keep you from losing your spot in line just in case.

Eru, you sound miffed, and if so, I am very sorry.

I didn't make my request because I was miffed but because I recognise that I'd be a terrible Ranger and would not want to inflict that experience on the community. That won't change at any time - I'm too old to change.

Eru, would you please remove me from the Mediator Pool? I'm still ready to act as a Juror or a Loremaster, but being a Mediator requires a kind of assertiveness that I don't have.

vison has said no to this ranger term, but said she would accept the next one.

Next in line is Mummpizz. I have sent him a PM.

I just thought of one reason why the Welcome letter might need to be sent out via email. Isn't that the way we find out if a person's email address is valid or not?

Eru,

I don’t think that should be a problem. In fact, I think the way the board is set up now the whole issue of invalid email addresses should be moot. That is because we are now set up as a member activated board. If someone provides an invalid email address when they register, they will not receive the activation email and will not be able to activate themselves. Likewise, if a member changes their email address they are automatically de-activated by the board software, and, again, they will not be able to re-activate themselves because they will not receive the activation email. The only other issue is that of members whose email account expires, leaving them activated but with an invalid address. Any global emails that are sent out by the Rangers should turn up such cases.

There is one more item involved in this that needs to be addressed. That is the matter of the “Agreement to Enter ToEâ€

Eru,

A few things I wanted to make you aware of:

I have added a thread in Forum Management titled “The Ranger Handbookâ€

In recognition of my new status as an out of work despot, I have assumed a new persona. From now on I will only talk about shortcake and battering rams.

In a final flurry of Rangerly fun I elevated Jny, Maria and Mummpy to Ranger status. Welcome and good luck.

I have also de-Rangered Rowan TED and myself. Yes, myself. Tricky, huh?

And now,all that is left to say is...

I’m back.

Eru,

Sorry if I missed this instruction earlier, but do you need the Rangers to let you know when we activate a new member, or are you checking the list yourself automatically and sending out Welcome PM's?

I just realized today that I've activated a few new members and made no attempt to communicate this to you. Don't know if I'm supposed to or not.

Eru,

Eltirwen has asked that she be "put on hold" in the various pools for which she volunteered. RL is interfering right now. This is a temporary situation.

Thanks,
Jn

and ... Jnyus here again. Could you add sauronsfinger to the Jury Pool. He volunteered by PM. Thanks!

To give fair warning and to be honest, I'm seriously considering resigning as Mayor. I'm not sure what to do yet and I'd feel guilty doing so after Mummpizz's kind comment today, but I have to admit the thought is crossing my mind more and more frequently.
