Hi Areanor! Good to see you.

According to the user list you have, in fact, been Rangerized!

Rangers can check on the experiment board, and if someone does practise but does not leave traces, Rangers could just tell them to do it once again and leave traces in place.
If someone just posted "I've done that" without leaving actual traces, there's no way to know if they really did the exercise, so the Ranger would also have to ask them to do it again and leave traces this time.
The instructions in the training threads ask that trainees delete their threads when they are done. That pretty much gets rid of the evidence. If all of the practice threads started were left in place the place would become cluttered very fast, I suppose. Perhaps practice threads should be left in place in the test forum until someone has verified that the exercises have been done?

Really though, I think the honor system is fine for this sort of thing. I would never attempt to do anything here on the real board without having thoroughly familiarized myself with the procedure on the practice board first. I assume others would do the same. But perhaps I am just too trusting. Who knows?

Believe me, they're overrated. :)

Thanks for agreeing to jump in on such short notice. It makes me that much more comfortable with my decision to know that we are in such good hands.

That goes for all the Rangers; you guys are the best.

Areanor -

So glad you're here! You're already on the list, m'dear. I just have to remove the "awaiting confirmation" note.

Tinwe :salmon: You forgot to hand Areanor HER SWORD.

:D

The fish that was broken and reforged again?

If you can think up a suitable name for a fish of such noble lineage then yes, you make have it.

Swords? We get swords? Kewl!

You’ll have to go to Prim for the Fish Of Noble Lineage. The Salmon of Correction is one of her most prized possessions. (And yes, it was broken and reforged when she loaned it to Sassy, I believe.)

"Et linquello linya Lingwe"

The Fish out of the wet pond.

Though I'll have to consult Breogan for confirmation.

If I may intrude, I would be honored if Areanor would bear the Salmon of Correction during her Rangerhood. I have other weapons, after all <strikes ninja pose>, and the dignity of the Salmon suits the dignity of her position.

fyi to the Rangers ...

I checked the Charter because it seemed rather inconvenient that the Mayor's password would change when the Rangers rotate, and the Charter says specifically that the Mayor password changes when a new Mayor takes office.

(I haven't memorized the durn thing yet.)

The password to the email account should change when the Rangers rotate because that password is posted in the sensitive info forum and the Rangers do use that email account.

But the Rangers should not need to use the Mayor screen name and the password to the screen name should not be posted in the sensitive info forum ... I don't know if it is, because I can't see that forum, but if it is, it should be removed.

It's not necessary to use the Mayor i.d. for updating posts here, should the Mayor take a powder, and I think that "Mayor" should be treated like a private member account and not like the Administrator i.d. which was conceived as something that all Rangers would use. The Mayor i.d. was conceived as something that one person would use - the person elected to the office.

If any Rangers have a different understanding of this, please discuss it here.

Meanwhile, I changed the password back to what it was originally, and I'll give that password to the Mayor-elect on September 12 so that they can set up their own password for the i.d. And after that it does not need to be changed while that same person holds office.

Another general f.y.i. to the Rangers ....

When the pools are updated in this forum, this is done by means of an edit, so the threads don't blink orange.

Rangers will have to make a routine of checking the training pool in particular, and the post where upcoming terms of office are listed.

Thank you!

An email I received from holby (b77 emails have been going into his junk mail):
Quote:
> Eru thanks for contacting me and sorry about taking so long to reply. I humbly apologize for this inconvenience I have caused everyone. Many issues have arisen here of late and I am unable to spend anytime online at the moment. Would you please see to it that someone take my place as admin? I am so sorry for causing this last minute problem, but some things are beyond my control. Everything is ok here, but I just need all of my time to attend to certain things. Sorry I have been unable to be around. Please tell any that are concerned all is ok, and tell any who are interested I said hi. I hope to be back online sometime later this month. Once again sorry for the trouble.

Thanks, Eru.

I went ahead and lined up T.E.D. and Rowanberry for Aug 1 because I didn't know what was up with Holby ... but before shovelling him into the next available terms I think we should wait anyway to hear from him about his updated availability.

I'm busting into this thread again to suggest that the Mayor should start a thread called something like "Member Questions for the Mayor" where people like me can post questions without busting into the Rangers' thread.

And while I'm here I want to thank Eru for posting the email from Holby. I was worried about him.

And as long as I'm being disruptive, I'll go ahead and post my question. Well, suggestion really.

In order to minimize the number of times the Ranger passwords have to change, wouldn't it be a good idea to align the ends of terms even if the beginnings are not on "regulation" dates? For example, tinwe in taking over for Voronwe began on July 4, but maybe he should finish on September 30 with the other July 1 Rangers?

Now I'll go back where I belong. :D

Prim -

First, to answer your question. Yes, we already do it that way. I do anyway. I don't know how often the Rangers are actually changing the passwords, like when Nin stayed on a few extra days, but I'm trying to get the system going where terms officially start on the first of the month and end on the last day of the month whether a Ranger actually starts on time or not. Areanor's term, for example, will end on September 30.

It would be hopelessly complicated for the Mayor to do it otherwise, and people would eventually be completely out of sync. Not to mention the hassle changing passwords more than once a month, as you point out.

Second - member disussion thread - excellent idea. I had originally intended that the Greetings from the Mayor thread would serve that purpose but I see everyone is tiptoeing around it.

I'll put on the Mayor suit a bit later this evening and set up a new, more inviting thread for members to post in.
