Jny, good point about the Mayor only having to be on the board once a week, but I still don't understand why that makes two missed notifications to constitute one disappearance - wouldn't he count as disappeared the first time he missed a notification?
Anyway, I think I'll go for a middle way. ;) :)

A. I approve this text

1. C
2. D
3. B
4. A

Hobby -

The mayor does notices once a week. If the article says he has to be missing two weeks to be counted as disappeared, then he misses two notifications before we count him as disappeared.

But the middle way is fine ... don't change it. Just offering the explanation you asked for. :)

Thanks for explaining, Jny! :)

But still -

I still haven't seen where the article says so!

(The bit in blue that says so I took to be merely an explanation to help people make up their minds.)

All the article says is:
Quote:
However, if the Rangers must use their administrative powers to enter the threads of Michel Delving or the Outside Forum on [three, five, seven, ten, fifteen] separate occasions on an emergency basis because the Mayor, through negligence and without giving advance warning of his/her absence, has failed to do any of the following in timely fashion:
Does this assume the Rangers will only use their administrative powers to do the Mayor's job if the Mayor missed out twice in a row, but not the first time round?
I don't see how it could assume that, though.

I have the same qualms as Hobby. Perhaps I'm a bit befuddled, but I don't understand how two absenses count as one dissappearence (no idea how to spell that). I probably should have chimed in before the vote started. My apologies. :oops:

Ack! It's in the bits that follow the part you quoted Hobby:

• send out eligibility notifications within two weeks of eligibility or member greetings within two weeks of activation;

If it doesn't happen within two weeks, then two weekly notifications have been mised.

There is no time limit mentioned for the other things, but I don't think there needs to be. If no Rangers show up on time, it doesn't matter whether they're one week late or two weeks late, does it? They have to be there on the first of the month, not later. Same with elections, that process has to take place according to the time limits specified.

The notifications are not as critical as the other things are, and that's why I put a lateness criterion on them. They can be late, but how late do they have to be before it's a problem? I don't think 'once a month' is frequent enough to send out eligibility notices, especially not for Jury Duty because the requirements are not very stringent. But sending them out every ten days instead of every seven days would not cause the place to fall apart either. So ... two weeks ... two missed notifications would probably start to be a problem. If our inflow continued as it is was last week - 40 new members in a week - that would mean that the Rangers would have to step in and send out 240 notifications on behalf of the Mayor after two weeks! -- 80 welcomes, 80 jury eligilibities, and 80 ranger eligibilities.

But we can pull that time frame out and discuss it separately if you wish.

Jn

VOTING IS CLOSED.

Here are my unconfirmed results. Faramond will also count. I will not be able to post charter text until after lunch (dinner in Europe). Also, so many questions were asked/raised during the voting process that I would like to put some of the items from all four ballots in a new thread for a quick clafying discussion when I return. Jn

Ballot 39

Question 1
A=11
B=0

Question 2
a=0
b=9
c=0
d=0
e=2

Question 3
A=11
B=0

:oops:

I guess I didn't read that carefully enough - we'd always been talking of sending the notices once a week, and the greetings a week after people joined, so I took it for granted that was the setting, and didn't notice the text had it differently!

Sorry - it's alright then, of course! :)

(Hope I'm not counting wrong again, but I've just seen that a middle way of 5 missings has won - that makes ten weeks absence out of 52 weeks of office grounds for removal - I think that's a very sensible agreement! :) )

Thank you. Glad to know I did one of the right! But that's why we have more than one counter. :D
