Why not call it "Sensitive Information--Mayor" to match the name of the current "Sensitive Information" forum that the Rangers use (which could perhaps have "--Rangers" added to its end for clarity's sake).

Eru, perhaps Voronwe and laureanna will speak to why they were uncomfortable about the Mayor using this forum when it came time to actually created Mayor threads there.
I don't recall saying that I was uncomfortable about the Mayor having access to the Sensitive Info Forum. It really doesn't matter one way or the other to me. If a person is trusted enough to be a Mayor s/he should be trusted enough to have the keys to everything. In fact, if the Mayor screen name was given admin status, it might simplify everything.

I do favor keeping the contents of the Sensitive Info Forum to a bare minimum, in order to be as transparent as possible. Passwords and TOE age verification are about it right now.

Jny, you say the forum is for penalties and complaints. Does that mean you get complaints from people by PM and stash copies of them in a secret forum for future rangers to see? Or did you want to discuss penalties and complaints privately with rangers? I think it would be very inappropriate to create a private thread for rangers and the mayor to discuss members. Sounds too much like creating "files" on people. As for penalties, isn't that readable by the membership in the Jury Room?

The penalties are those imposed by a Jury when a hearing is held. The Mayor keeps the record of them and advises the Rangers when each penalty expires so that permissions can be restored in timely fashion. (Article 5, ¶2)

The warnings and complaints are those filed against Rangers according to the procedure in Article 3, ¶8.

Or did you want to discuss penalties and complaints privately with rangers?

No, there's no discussion involved. The forum is just a place to store the information - primarily so that expiration dates are not overlooked. But in the case of warnings and complaints against Rangers, they can also accumulate into a more serious issue; and the Formal Complaints stay on record for nine months following the expiration of the term, during which time the person cannot be a temp Ranger. The Mayor is charged with keeping track of these things.

We decided that the storage of this kind of information would be private. That's why we need a hidden forum where the members won't be staring at it all the time.

Well, I haven't done admin duties here - but I do have a little phpbb board. I created a hidden forum there just for members of my immediate family (as we are both far-flung and internet savvy). It wasn't hard at all. Took a couple of minutes. It's only hard if you have to explicitly set permissions for the whole board, and that would not be the case.

So I don't think that need be a consideration. I agree with those who think hidden forums should not be visible - why taunt people with what they cannot see? I don't see why this needs to be a problem at all, actually. The forum will just be for record-keeping, right?

Bump - I forgot two items, one that we said already should be on a ballot somewhere, and one that we overlooked. Both have been added to the ballot above

• as the new Question 3 -- a mayor cannot serve in other capacities
• as Question 7 -- an amend to Article 5 requiring a Loremaster at hearings to remove a Ranger

(The addition of a loremaster to hearing to remove the Mayor has been added to the ballot in the other thread about removing the mayor)

I think the Mayor should have their own private hidden forum. it's a shame it can't be hidden from those transient Rangers. :D

Jnyusa,

It looks good.

Yeah, those darned Rangers. :D

Voronwe - somehow I skipped over your post at the top of this page. "Sensitive Info - Mayor" is a good name for the forum, if the other Sensitive Info thread can be similarly re-designated.

I like it because it's neutral. Things that are not cause for happiness should not have cute names.

Are the other Rangers willing to have the name of the other forum changed to "Sensitive Info - Rangers"?

Don't think that should be a problem...
and yes, I'm also for not having visible yet non-accessible forums to the membership at large. Not nice.
That we have them will become clear to those that want to find out and if there are questions about it, I'm sure they can be answered satisfactorily.

Let me wait and see if anyone else has comments about that name, and then I'll just edit it in.

"Sensitive Information --- Mayor" is very intruiging to me. ;)

It's forbidden knowledge known only to the elect. :D

So I say go with that one.

BALLOT #41

In order to spare the Rangers the trouble of changing all the board permissions and redesignating the groups used to create permissions, it is proposed that the Mayor will not have access to the Sensitive Info forum but will have access instead to a second, hidden Mayor forum where record keeping will be maintained for outstanding penalties against members and outstanding warnings and complaints against Rangers.

Question1: Do you accept the creation of a second, hidden Mayor forum, and an amendment to Article 4 removing the text which gives the Mayor access to the Sensitive Info forum?
B. No

Question 2: under ¶1 of Article 4, concerning the right of the Mayor to request a deputy, the text will be amended to read:

A. I agree to the amended text

Question 3: under ¶1 of Article 4, we need to add the following as a second clause:

PLEASE SELECT
A. I agree to the inclusion of this clause

Question 4: under ¶2 of Article 4, concerning the record keeping for Mediators, the text is inconsistent with Article 5 and Article 5 will be amended to read:

A. I agree to the amended text

Question 5: under ¶3 of Article 4, concerning the forums used by the Mayor, Michel Delving is no longer part of the Outside Forum and the text should be amended to reflect this change. The amended text will read:

A. I agree to the amended text

Question 6: Subject to Question 1, the mayor will be excluded from the Sensitive Info forum and a second, hidden Mayor’s forum may be created. If that proposal is defeated, no other amendments need by made to ¶3 of Article 4. But if that proposal is approved, the text will be amended to read:

A. I agree to the amended text, subject to Question 1

Question 7: And in the thread concerning Grounds for removing the mayor and Hearings to remove the mayor, we are providing that a loremaster should be present at hearings to remove the mayor. A similar provision should be made for hearings to remove a Ranger. The following clause would be added to Article 5, ¶6:

A. I agree to the inclusion of this clause

I like the forum name. :)

Ethel, LOL, I explained all about the problems of changing the forum settings in my previous post.
And we do have hidden forums here - it's not like we don't know how to create them! :P

(Jny, I think it was I who expressed having problems with letting the Mayor have all that access, not laureanna. :) )
